Visit Troy Alves web site www.trainwithtroyalves.com to check out a wide array of training programs he offers. I was fortunate enough to work with Troy for a number of shows including 5 pro wins. Before there was classic, Troy was ”classic” and he won several pro shows at around 218 pounds not far off from 212. One of the best physiques I have ever worked with. Troy actually gave me the nickname “ The Technician”. We were in Atlantic City around 2009 and were watching a Floyd Mayweather documentary. Side note; I didn’t know who Floyd Mayweather was lol. And Floyd’s father kept harping on the words “ technical, and technique” Troy blurted out “ Chris your a technician like that” And it stuck. #goosebumps #smokey
I have posted this picture before of the reigning Mr Olympia Shawn Rhoden. This was the morning of the 2015 Mr Olympia prejudging. I had told Shawn “ you gonna be almost impossible to beat.” I had him clearly winning prejudge only to change my mind at the Finals and Phil came back really strong on Saturday night. A week after the show I asked a judge I know for the first time ever ( asking ) something like “ Come on man Shawn had that show.” In return I got a blank look and one comment. “His legs need to be deeper when standing in the line up. Sometimes they relax. Fix that and he wins” Fast forward to 2018, I snapped a pic of Shawn thinking “Ok this is that 2015 pic with the deep quads.” I sent the pic to someone I know expecting a High-Five moment only to have him text me back “Make sure his legs are bone deep hard.” Couple days later they were and I sent the new picture to my friend to which his response was “ what type of champagne does Shawn like?” At the end of the day I just like this 2015 pic. It reminds me of Jay pics from 2001 where you just sit up and take notice. That they not playing around but in it to conquer all.
People ( Brazilians ! ) love these little in room check ins. I wish I had the luxury to attend more shows. Here I am checking on Brazilian Boas Henrique who moved up from classic to the 212. Other noted Brazilians 🧐include Eduardo Correa, Rafael Brandao, William Martins and 50percent Brazilian Ricardo Correia
I often have bragged to others about this man’s good deeds; what he has done (in secret ) for others and how he has treated people when the spot light is not there. Often those who have been the recipient of Shawn’s good deeds and gestures tell me “ Do you know what Shawn did for me!?” Because I know Shawn and know he doesn’t do those kind things for anything other then “ because they are a good thing to do” I usually cut them off and try to say something witty. When I hear people talk highly of him it’s one thing, when they brag about him it’s a little uncomfortable. But I thought it’s good timing to do a little bragging. Shawn Rhoden is not only Mr Olympia, he is a person of integrity and character. Full stop.
Day 2 in Tampa. I didn’t leave here with a win but I was nominated for funniest guru. Check out in room typical day with Luke Sandoe. Congrats to Dexter Jackson. This guy been thorn in my side for 20 years. 😊I really think what he has accomplished is borderline unexplainable. What he does in and out of the gym and on stage for all these years in my mind is far more impressive then Cal Ripken. Ripken was done by 40. Dexter makes him look like a baby. @mrolympia08 @lukesandoe @bevsgym
Congrats to William Martins for winning the Brazil Musclecontest. And my hat off to Legend Ed Connors for introducing us. Ed Connors is one of the most revered individuals in the sport from 1983 to probably 2005 or so. Ed has a knack of finding talent all over the globe and has hosted at his home in Los Angeles near Golds gym (HIS gym! ) probably 200 plus bodybuilders in that time frame.
Day 1 Tampa Pro down. Great show ( thank you To promoter Tim Gardiner for putting on a tremendous weekend ). Consoling (😊 ) Guy Cisternino and Zane Watson after their 3rd and 2nd place finishes. Nothing is as fun as winning but as I always say “ Coleman, Jay and Phil lost shows. You can’t win everything but you win when you give 100 percent and should always learn something along the way. For example I learned Zane’s not so cool with losing and Guy finds it disgusting 🤕
Congrats and what took you so long!? When I met Jonathan Hambrick 9 months ago I told him “ we go the Olympia this year”. He said “ I have never competed as a pro”. Chris “so what” Pittsburgh 3rd. Chris “Good But we going the Olympia” Chicago 6th Chris “ we going the Olympia” Lenda Murray show phone rings King Hambrick “you right we going!” Congrats on your win.
I don’t sell anything on my IG. Once every two years or so I will plug my books, but today I am selling this sketch my son made of Tom Brady. He’s only been drawing for 4 months and he made this the other day. I sent it to the resident IFBB artist ( Cedric McMillan ) and he was impressed so I told him “ I’m selling it to get my son into the art biz. So if you think it’s worth $20 bucks I will unload it to the first person who grabs it. You can email me. therealtechnician1 @gmail com
Henri Pierre Ano has won classic shows and places top three in open shows. This pics from couple days ago he’s capable of doing both. @henripierreano
With Skip Robinson 1976 Mr World today at Luke’s Lobster in Portland, Maine. Skip is the first bodybuilder I think I ever met. I believe he was working as a temp security for WWE wrestling in 1982 when I was 14 . ( Skips physique smoked everyone in the WWE ) He invited me to the gym and I started training at 530 am before school. I used to wake up at 345 am eat and walk 40 minutes so I could get there by 530. Skip was a jr version of Arnold lol. He actually trained all summer with Arnold in the 1970’s. Skip always drove sports car(s ) ( and Harley’s )he wore full length fur jackets, cowboy boots and carried man purse before anyone did those things. You are older now Skip but you still have swag! Check his interview out on John Hansen’s podcast for some of the best bb stories.
The Boston mass Jose-Raymond six years ago today when he won Toronto pro 212. Insanity! Won the NY pro Seven days before. #allscience
Zane Watson last years winner of the 212 Toronto Super show “ yep we did that🧐” Zane don’t take crap from no one” Peeled out of his mind at that show #noPhd
Ron Partlow from one of his peeled Canadian showings. (I prepped him for many shows ) Ron is not only a tremendous bodybuilder but he is a student of the sport. He really understands diet, training, recovery more then most every person I know. He has also coined multiple phrases I often use on the heavy muscle radio show such as “ Dillet Cardio” ( for rediculous low intensity cardio ) and “ lasix fish” (for fish that have eaten lasix this cause someone to throw up )
Two best bodybuilders in Brazil Eduardo and Rafael. I met Eduardo ten years ago today in New York and he has displayed at times some of the best level of conditioning ever to set foot on a bodybuilding stage. What’s so great about Eduardo ? It’s not his work ethic and commitment to bodybuilding, but his inner peace that is genuine and sincere. This is 20 minutes after a really tough, in many people’s minds, poor decision and this is how Eduardo handles it: with a smile and positive attitude. Eduardo introduced me to Rafael and he has a similar way about him. And if I Don’t say “ future Mr Olympia” then the Crazed Brazilian fans will go nuts on me 😊 Lastly for my friend H Pink “ no budget!”
