Ten years ago, in the midst of an election much like this one, I chose to vote the only way I knew. I chose to blindly associate myself with a political party rather than educate myself on the issues facing my community. I thought to myself, at age 18, how am I to know the direction our country should take? How am I to know whether a position on any given issue is right? How am I to know how my one vote will impact my future? Or more importantly, our future? + In the years since, I have educated myself so that I could come to learn the laws and liberties which hold our country together. One thing that rings true is the law leaves much open to interpretation. Still, our various opinions of such interpretations should not divide our humanity and smother the voices of our fellow Americans. We are neither better nor worse than our neighbor, yet our self-imposed judgments have convinced us otherwise. We have forgotten that we all share a common thread, a common belief, and a common right. Tomorrow, I challenge you to speak to the person standing next to you in line at the polls. Ask someone what they are voting for, not who, and I challenge you to listen to that individual without judgment. Engage in civil discourse. Allow yourself to hear a perspective and a voice you may have never heard before. In a country that highly values such a freedom, take advantage of this conversation on a day when it matters most. + My reach may be small but my voice will nonetheless be heard. I urge you to use your voice this Election Day. I urge you to educate yourself on the candidates running to lead your community and make an informed decision rather than allow your vote to succumb to the same rhetoric that has drowned our society. Tomorrow is an opportunity for our communities to move forward together rather than fall behind in pieces. Tomorrow is an opportunity to advocate for the evolution of our democracy and the elevation of all people, races, genders, sexualities, nationalities, socioeconomic statuses, etc. Tomorrow is an opportunity for the people of the United States of America to take back our liberty and justice for all. #vote
