Almost a decade ago, sitting miserably in my little office cubicle, I knew I needed something different... I just didn’t know what or HOW. I sat for hours (checking to make sure my boss wasn’t looking! ), Googling “world’s coolest jobs,” “how to get paid to travel,” and “how to be happy.” I had NO idea at that time that I WOULD find a way. And I’d not only become an entrepreneur who lives btwn Canada, Australia & Bali... I’d also randomly wind up as Contributing Coach, speaker & platinum sponsor for the EXACT event I needed so desperately in my life ( @thetravelbootcamp ) all those years ago when I was a journalist trapped behind a desk... An event that teaches people how to make 💵💵💵 from their passion for travel, adventure and exploration. (The very thing I used to bang my head against the wall trying to figure out 🤦🏻‍♀️ ). The reason I’m so excited to be aligned with this event isn’t just because I adore its incredible founders @laurenepbath @youngadventuress @georgiarickard who have an insane WEALTH of combined media knowledge... It isn’t just because I’ll be standing next to some amazing brands @vogueaustralia @natgeotravel @olympus_au @intrepidtravel @stayzau @travmedia It’s because I see such a huge need to demystify what it actually looks like to live a life entirely of your choosing, where you can make a legit living as a blogger, writer and photographer, bringing deeper connection & beauty to the world. Our world is changing... And the 9-5 office job will soon be a thing of the past. Those of us carving a remote, flexible world of our choosing want nothing more than to help others have this for themselves too 🏝🥂✨ And THAT is why I’m part of the @thetravelbootcamp family ✈️ If you’d like to join me there, just 2 weeks to get your tix 🔥🔥🔥www.thetravelbootcamp.com . . . . . #thetravelbootcamp #travelwriter #travelblogger #travelentrepreneur #travelconference #selfdevelopment

Over at @thetravelbootcamp HQ we’re excited to announce @stayzAU as a partner for our Queenstown event in a few weeks! Hell yes! . I’m such an accommodation fiend, considering I spend a great deal of time on the road, I am borderline obsessed with picking the most comfortable and charming place to stay no matter where I go. Honestly, I’m borderline neurotic about it. My dream home rental has a view, a Nespresso machine, fast wifi, and a bathtub. What about you? . Stayz are Australia’s original home booking site with access to 190 locations worldwide, including Queenstown (wink wink ) You might know them as ‘Bookabach’ in New Zealand, or ‘Vrbo’ in America, all of which I frequently use on my travels around the world, as well as many of our delegates, who are using Stayz to share houses in during the weekend. With over 700 listings in Queenstown (lots with baths! ), be sure to check out Stayz for a last-minute place to stay with character! . And if that’s not enough, join us in Queenstown and you’ll get to meet Stayz and even have the chance to win an opportunity to work with them while being mentored by @laurenepbath ! Yes, we are HANDING you a foot in the door and the chance to work with a worldwide, prestigious brand! Where were these possibilities when I was starting out in travel blogging? #Stayz #HolidayRental #TheTravelBootcamp #queenstown

Today is my New Zealand anniversary. 6 years ago today I boarded a one-way flight to the bottom of the world and haven't looked back since. Ironically, I'm writing this caption from Australia, where I’m currently working in Sydney til Monday, but I truly can't think of anywhere else I'd rather call home than Aotearoa. Fret not my beloved kiwis, I will never abandon you for our wily, wombats next door! Thank you kiwis for embracing me, and welcoming me to your land and for letting me part of your story. Thank you to all the people who said I was crazy for wanting a different life for motivating me to prove you wrong. Thank you to all of the amazing souls who have my my expat journey here so remarkable. Thank you to NZ immigration for keeping me around and thank you all for following my journey all these years. I have a secret to share ... most people in life don’t really know what the f they’re doing. People that seem like they have all the answers, all the success. People that you aspire to be... they’re all just doing the same as everyone else. (Throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks 😂. ) I’ve been speculating on this a lot lately as more and more people congratulate me on my career success, and the girls and I with the Bootcamp. Because guess what? Even we’re pinching ourselves that Nat Geo, Vogue Australia, a New York Times Award Winning Photojournalist and some of our favorite brands have signed up. The truth is, successful people have a high tolerance to fear and rejection. The only true secrets to my success are as follows: 1 ) I know what I want out of my life (purpose ) 2 ) I have grit and consistent habits with my workload 3 ) I’m constantly uncomfortable (fear ) and have learned to live with it 4 ) I have professional standards and treat all people as equal and 5 ) I’m not afraid of rejection. When you come to the Bootcamp we teach you all the stuff you need to know to work in travel. But for many the real value comes from learning all the other stuff. Mindset, etiquette, dealing with rejection and understanding that anyone can have this type of life if they’re prepared to put in the work and not be a dick. I can’t believe we’re only a few weeks away! 🙈 @TheTravelBootcamp #TheTravelBootcamp

One of the cleverest improvements to our next Bootcamp is making our sponsors a bigger part of the conversation, after all they are all brands that we expect our delegates to be pitching to, and working with. We are particularly excited to be launching an initiative with Stayz, who have just expanded into the international market from Australia. (Although they’ve been around forever as Vrbo in the US & Bookabach in NZ ) Stayz are a prime client for a travel creative because of the sheer number of destinations and locations they operate in. It’s secretly been my dream to work with one client that just sends me all over the world. 😂 Plus, Stayz are already actively working with influencers and creatives! So, how would you get a ‘look in with a brand like Stayz? (Apart from coming to the next Bootcamp to meet them and enter their comp 🙊😝. ) 1 ) Know, love and use the brand. Clients love to work with people who already know what they’re about. Wouldn’t you? 2 ) Know the kind of content the brand favors and offer them more of that! Brands love to have more of what they already have! You don’t have to reinvent the wheel. 3 ) Pitch articulately by introducing yourself, outlining what you want and detailing what you can offer. Make it personal and engaging. This is where knowing, loving and using the brand helps. 4 ) Be familiar with brand messaging. For example, knowing that Stayz are Australia’s original home booking site and they’ve recently launched holiday homes and apartments in 190 locations around the world will definitely impress when you make your case. ❤️ @StayzAu #Stayz #HolidayRental #TheTravelBootcamp #NewZealand #NZMustDo

I uploaded an IGTV post yesterday that shares probably the biggest truth bomb I have when it comes to growing your Instagram account. So many people ask “how do I get more followers on Instagram?” But they’re often not truly thinking about what they bring to their audience. One exercise that I have all of my clients do when they get their Instagram workshop is to take a cold, hard look at their account and answer this question: “Would I follow this account?” Instagram is saturated now. It’s not enough to post some pics or selfies or whatever and expect the followers to flock to you. If you want people to engage with your account you have to give them real value! Think about your favorite Instagram accounts. What makes them great? What makes you go and type in their username when you haven’t seen a post for a few days? I guarantee it’s content! You love what they give you. Whether it’s images, video, recipes, health tips, cat memes, jokes, eye candy or career inspiration... something resonates! Be THAT to YOUR audience. Catch my IGTV if you missed it and comment with your favorite Instagram account and why it’s your fave - I’m curious to put my theory to the test. ❤️ @thetravelbootcamp #thetravelbootcamp #Namibia #Sossusvlei #NamibDesert

[ Olympus Announcement ] Argh, I am so frigging excited to share that Olympus are on board as a Platinum Sponsor for the Bootcamp for the 6th event in a row! They are literally our founding sponsor and have been an incredible brand to work with. Under our new event format Olympus (and their fave Visionary ... ME 🙋🏼‍♀️😂😂 ) will take to the stage to teach delegates how to Pitch to a big brand! They’ll be sharing some of the best, and worst, pitches they receive on the regular, teaching you what they look for AND there is going to be a massive prize for someone in the audience who learns their lesson well ... Yes, I am being deliberately vague. But basically, no where else will you learn straight from the horses mouth exactly what it takes to land your dream job! We. Are. Excited! 😱 Link in bio to come and learn from the best. @olympus_au #OlympusInspired PS. [ Stayz Announcement ] I feel like I have to spend the next month literally announcing all our cool Bootcamp partners 😎 - we are so grateful! But for now, I want to share our new partnership with Stayz, @StayzAU Stayz are Australia’s original holiday rental website, and they now grant Aussie’s access to 190 locations worldwide, including Queenstown. 😝 You might know them as ‘Bookabach’ in New Zealand, or ‘Vrbo’ in America. Stayz are on board as a Gold Sponsor, and will be offering delegates the opportunity to work with them. (With some cheeky mentoring from me 😱❤️. ) We have a growing community of past and present delegates in our secret Facebook community group, and many are partnering up to share accommodation in Queenstown. If this is you, make sure you check out @StayzAu And remember what we teach, brands like to work with people who know, use and love their offering. 😜 #Stayz #HolidayRental #TheTravelBootcamp #GoldSponsor ⭐️🌟✨💫

Olympus Ambassador “Laurenepbath” PLEASE EXPLAIN to the Public and Sponsors WHY HAVE YOU PURCHASED CHEAP FAKE LIKES on this Post & from the beginning of your career in Instagram. THERE IS NO ORGANIC GROW in your account. This is an Unaltered Screen Grab from 14/03/2014. How can an ordinary bunch of flower receive 9,086 likes in 2014. . Why DID Lauren Bath received More Likes in 2014 with less followers? . Deemed “Australia's first professional Instagrammer” by the national media, in reality Laurenepbath is “Australia’s First Professional INSTA-SCAMMER”. . In 2011, Lauren Bath was ONE OF THE FIRST to Realise that Buying Fake Likes & Followers would manipulate and dominate Instagram by guaranteeing Sponsorship because her photos would always be featured in Top Posts. . Manipulating her way to the top, Olympus Ambassador Laurenepbath has contrived a worthless delusion of grandeur & self-importance to generate an income. . You can see Undeniable Evidence that Influencers Laurenepbath & her Friend, Co-Founder of The Travel Bootcamp Youngadventuress have been HABITUALLY BUYING FAKE LIKES on Posts in my GALLERY @_the.real.truth.hurts_ , including a VIDEO I found on YOUTUBE proving that Lauren Bath has been Continually Cheating on Instagram since she opened HER Account in 2011. . Buying fake likes, followers & comments on Instagram is a violation of Instagram's community guidelines and terms of service. Lauren Bath should get a real job rather than Stealing from Sponsors & Scamming the Public. This is FRAUD !!! . HOW CAN these two Charlatans Laurenepbath & Youngadventuress TEACH PEOPLE TO GROW ORGANICALLY at #thetravelbootcamp in #queenstownnz in October when BOTH THEIR Instagram Accounts are Completely Corrupted by Purchased FAKE Followers, Likes & Custom Comments. ??? . If you decided to become an Influencer, please do not follow these examples by LYING and CHEATING on Instagram. Don’t lose your self-respect and dignity begging for freebies & SCAMMING businesses as they also have to survive.

🌟Monday morning musings🌟 . It was a nice clear and frosty morning when I woke up today in Wanaka, and I got all nostalgic for my favorite red @monsroyale wooly fisherman’s beanie which I accidentally left in @flightcoffeehangar in Wellington last week 😭 honestly, I don’t understand how I lose so many damn beanies! It’s a great burden, I swear, and I try so hard. I never lose socks or sunnies but I go through about 3 beanies per winter ❄️ are you a fellow forgetful beanie fiend too? . Tomorrow I go down to Dunedin for a second round of nose and throat surgery to fix my sleep apnea and terrible breathing. I’m nervous and scared but also grateful for New Zealand’s free healthcare system. Please send Netflix, books and podcast recommendations, as well as good vibes. Fingers crossed they give me the good meds 🤗 I’m currently watching #oitnb , reading Tidelands, and listening to 1619. My ankle is still all busted up, I tore a ligament about 1 hour after taking this photo of myself walking to my car. . New jacket by @cuyana who I’m currently obsessed with! . We’re stoked to announce that Vogue is also joining us at our @thetravelbootcamp in Queenstown to help workshop as well as @barekiwi as MC 🎉 we’ve extended our second release of tickets until tonight for any stragglers looking to come - they’re almost gone so be sure to grab one before the prices go up ✌🏻 here’s you’re ticket to getting paid to travel the world, take it! So many people have either forgotten, or never really understood the true heart of this platform. And the thing is, whether you want to make money as an instagrammer or not, you will never get real joy from this platform unless you understand this one fundamental thing. To everyone on here that has become a part of my life, thank you. You know who you are. I have friends on Instagram from over 8 years ago. People who I used to race home from work to talk to, friends that kept me glued to my screen for hours at a time. People who shaped my photography, my travels and my life. I am so grateful to you and to instagram for everything. ❤️ @thetravelbootcamp #thetravelbootcamp (an hour and a half until ticket pricing goes up. 💸🤔 )

Weird time for me to post, Saturday night! Haha. But I have a reason - because Bootcamp tickets are going up tomorrow morning, T minus 15 hours away. I was thinking a lot about it this morning, because I field a lot of enquiries about the event and because I understand people’s fear and reluctance. I know I talk about this event a lot, and I know that it annoys some people. In fact, I consistently lose followers every time I have an event coming up. But I do it anyway. Why? Because I know that I have something to share that is magical and life changing and special. I consider it my duty to get through to as many people as I can. I truly do. And I know that Liz and Georgia feel the same. I’m not going to insult your intelligence and tell you some fluff about living my dreams (although I am 🌟😂 )! I work really, really hard. Harder than most. But I am driven by my work. I am fulfilled and I am happy. If you’ve been sitting on the fence I only ask that you sit still for 5 minutes. Don’t scroll your phone, don’t have the TV on in the background, don’t fiddle. Just sit still and ask yourself for the answer. Is this what you want? And then trust your gut, whatever it is telling you. Use that incredible intuition that is a part of you. I read a great quote today, “Most people don’t actually fail, they give up.” Michael Lane. Have you given up before you’ve even tried? ❤️ @thetravelbootcamp #thetravelbootcamp

[ All about Money Honey 💵🍯 ] It’s come to my attention that I still haven’t really talked about one of the biggest objections we get from people about coming to the Travel Bootcamp ... “I can’t afford it”. 🙋🏼‍♀️ So I wanted to take the opportunity to bring up the dirty “M” word - money! I totally understand that money is a deeply personal subject for a lot of people, but it’s a subject I’ve become very comfortable discussing since I embarked on a freelance career. So here we go ... The Travel Bootcamp has undergone a big change this year in a lot of ways, but one way that’s obvious from the start is that we’re charging more and we’re charging in US dollars. Why? Well, the Bootcamp has just doubled in size and doubled in content. The extra costs are to cover the speakers we are bringing in, and the extra resources and overheads. We’re charging in US$ because we’re an international business, following international standards. As for affordability, I obviously don’t know everyone’s personal circumstances, but I do know that “affordable” means different things to different people. We all have those little luxuries that we can “afford” but don’t value other things - like upskilling and personal development. We are all guilty of this! I’m known for being frugal when it comes to my wardrobe (anyone who’s met me will agree ), but I’ll drop thousands on travel without a second thought. The girls and I have tried to put a value on what this weekend is worth, I think our rough maths put it at $4,089. But even that isn’t right. Because what we give our delegates doesn’t have a monetary value, it is priceless. We talk about subjects that no other events talk about, we give you the opportunity to turn your life around. And this isn’t BS, we have proof from previous delegates. Money is energy. Giving this energy to an empowering event is a massive shout out to the universe that YOU WON’T SETTLE FOR THE LIFE YOU HAVE! I know that these are only words but my word is all I have. If money is legitimately the only thing stopping you I ask that you re-evaluate your priorities. Because a life of purpose and happiness doesn’t have a price. ❤️❤️ @TheTravelBootcamp #thetravelbootcamp

Before you buy things, do you ask yourself just how badly do you want something? How badly do you want that cute dress? How badly do you want that new phone? How badly do you want that new car? HOW BADLY DO YOU WANT A DIFFERENT LIFE? . Throughout my early twenties, I was always broke, by my own standards; I'm talking 2-minute noodle meals and making flimsy excuses for late rent payments broke. I was living paycheck to paycheck for years, and any time I earned any significant amount of money, I immediately spent it on a trip somewhere. I hungered for travel the way some people hunger for greasy Friday night pizza. My curiosity for exploring the world was insatiable, it was a drug for me, and I wanted it badly, more than I wanted anything else. Travel was my nourishment. . So while my friends bought cars, health insurance, and smartphones I bought cheap plane tickets and booked dorm hostel beds as a way to feed my hungry soul. When I saw the chance to turn my travel blog into a full-time job and inspire the world to be curious, I took every single opportunity that came my way to make it happen. The universe beckoned and I jumped feet first without a second thought. . But somehow along the track my generation got really fucking entitled. No one is going to hand you the life of your dreams or a dream career, I mean come on! You gotta want it badly, you've gotta want it more than anything. You've got work your ass off for it. When you see an opportunity, you stand up and take it! You've gotta fight for it, grab it with both hands (and even your teeth ) and never, EVER fucking let it go 🙌🏻 @thetravelbootcamp #ladyboss #thetravelbootcamp #riseandgrind

[ The non-glamorous side of influencer marketing! ] It’s actually pretty funny how many people think that my job is glamorous AF! And, although I try so hard to be completely transparent on here, I’m definitely guilty of failing to talk about the “non-fun” side of influencing enough. So, here’s a bit of BTS on what actually does on ... The work that I do is NOT easy! Going on a trip, taking photos and sharing with you guys is an absolute joy and the best part of my job. But behind every single post and great day out in the world is days and days of admin and business. 😂 For example, most creatives starting out in this industry have no idea that they need to register a business. This is legit grown up adulting! When I started I decided to apply for an ABN but then did literally nothing about tax, nothing about superannuation, had no idea what I could and couldn’t claim and, to make matters worse, I was charging clients for GST before I was even registered for GST. 😩😩 The shame! When I finally got an accountant I was given two options - 1 ) pay the government back thousands in GST or, 2 ) email every single client I’ve ever involved, apologise for my mistake and pay them back! 😱😂 Can you guess what I picked? And then there’s all the pitching, writing proposals, KPI’s, logistics and reporting. I legit spend more time on my computer than I do in a destination for any given job. And the truth is, if you have the skills and the work ethic to handle the admin side of things, you’re well ahead of the pack. Like, WELL ahead of the pack! This information either inspired you or terrified you. You’re welcome. 😂 @TheTravelBootcamp #TheTravelBootcamp #InspirationalQuotes #SuccessMindset #TravelBlogger #TravelInfluencer #Zimbabwe #Sunrise

[ Free Tips on Pitching Work ] It’s a common misconception that the influencer industry is crowded, and there’s not enough work to go around. I think the rumor has probably been started by aspiring influencers that try to get work and fail, then assume it’s because there’s no work. On the contrary, if this happens ... it’s not them, it’s you! The reason most up and comers don’t get work is because they don’t know how to pitch. This is the literal reason. As for work, there is a shit tone of it! I’d say there are more opportunities out there now that ever before and I’m certainly turning down stacks of jobs right now due to time restraints. So, how do you pitch? I’m going to give you a couple of my best tips! . 1 ) Firstly, don’t just pitch once and wait for a miracle. When you are starting out you will be pitching to hundreds of potential clients, and even that might not be enough. Forget your fear of rejection, you’re about to get rejected times infinity! 😈😂😂😂 . 2 ) Don’t pitch unless you have something TO pitch. This is a massively common mistake. Do NOT email a brand and say you want to work with them and leave it open ended. They do not have the resources to identify what you can do for them, make it easy! Know your services, know your pricing and know what you can do for them! . 3 ) Attach a media kit for credibility and to show you’re professional. I did a post on media kits two days ago. . 4 ) Try to secure a face to face meeting if you can. Clients work with people they like and it’s much easier to like someone when you meet them face to face. . 5 ) Play a long game! There’s nothing worse than a thirsty and desperate influencer. Make connections with people out of genuine interest in them and their brand but be prepared to wait years, or forever, for that relationship to pan out into work. I literally signed off on a job today from a contact I’ve known for five years. First job with her. . So my friends, don’t ever think there’s no work out here in travel land! There’s plenty for the right people. Happy pitching. @TheTravelBootcamp #TheTravelBootcamp

I've found my home and for that, I am so grateful @thetravelbootcamp #thetravelbootcamp #expat #newzealand #americanexpat #moretacos

I’m so incredibly fortunate to have been invited back to do @kerwinrae ‘s recent NISI (Nail It and Scale It ) event in Sydney with my Bootcamp business partners Georgia and Liz. One of my favourite things about Kerwin is his brutal honesty and lack of BS. I guess because it’s a philosophy that we also follow at our event. But here’s a massive dose of truth, which I’m going to borrow from Kerwin but put into my own words ... Where you are in life is the direct result of your own choices. You can’t blame anyone else. If you want to change you need to first believe that you can, and then f**king step up! I’m a massive subscriber to the motto, “Life begins at the end of your comfort zone”. This is because I am literally uncomfortable every single day of my life. Exposing myself to discomfort makes me more resilient to it, which enables me to expose myself to even more uncomfortable things. When was the last time you did something that made you deeply uncomfortable? @thetravelbootcamp #TheTravelBootcamp #InspirationalQuotes #SuccessMindset #TravelBlogger #TravelInfluencer #Zimbabwe #BumiHillsFoundation

[Free Guide to Media Kits Within Post 💁🏼‍♀️💜] Okay, so I’m actually working on a PDF right now that is a guide to writing a media kit. It’s a part of the goodie bag/ course notes we’re giving away at the next Bootcamp, BUT I wanted to also share some bare bones info here. Basically a media kit is a document that you would create if you’re looking to pitch work as a digital influencer, blogger or writer. It contains some obvious information, like a bio and a profile picture, but also other, less obvious info. The benefit of a media kit is that it introduces you to your potential clients in a professional, downloadable email attachment that saves you the time of telling them all about yourself and your work. It’s an awesome short cut with the benefit of making you look super professional! I can’t tell you how many influencers I know that don’t have one! Here’s what you might like to include: . 1 ) My media kit contains a sample of my work, including different genres of photography and destinations. I have a literal A4 page grid of thumbnail sized images to show variety. . 2 ) I also have a bio (written in the third person ) and a clear and professional head shot. . 3 ) I include any work experience, media features or accolades. Remembering that when you’re starting out this list will be small, but also that it’s okay to be a little “creative” here. . 4 ) I have a page with analytics (screenshots ) of my Instagram audience and engagement, as well as my other social media assets and reach. . 5 ) I have a page that lists my services! This one is super important for anyone starting out as an influencer or content creator and there is a real psychology to this! Clients do not want to tell you what they want from you! Nope. They want to know what packages you offer and the price. Make it easy to be hired. . 6 ) Finally, I also include a bit of a summary of my philosophy and approach to the work I do. I guess I would call this my “point of difference”. Why should a client hire you and nobody else? What special x-factor can you bring? . I hope this helped someone? @TheTravelBootcamp #TheTravelBootcamp #TravelInfluencer #DigitalInfluencer #MediaKit #TravelBlogger

Is anyone else just sick and tired of all the BS and fake behavior on Instagram? I don’t get it. How is it mentally good for anyone to see and consume that stuff OR try and emulate it? No wonder everyone is full of bitterness, stress and anxiety, me included 💁‍♀️ I notice the more time I spend exploring on Instagram, the worse it can be for me if I’m not mentally strong “UGH Liz why aren’t your legs longer and why don’t you have a thigh gap and why didn’t you get a better shot at this place?” Oh that’s right, you are short and love burgers and are anxious AF 🤔 remember, comparison is the thief of joy. Stop comparing yourself to people on the internet, we’re all stars and doing our best 🌟 So next time you’re scrolling through social media and feel those dark thoughts start creeping in, please remember you aren’t alone; we’re all in this together. And I don’t know about you guys, but I’m dying to see more heart on Instagram, I’m CRAVING some damn good stories and authentic pages to follow. Do you guys have any recommendations of creative people who fit the ticket? Who are you really enjoying following on Instagram right now? I’m the first person to tell you that my career as a professional instagrammer is NOT always rainbows and unicorns. 🙅🏼‍♀️🌈🦄😂 Despite the fact that I built this career on my passions (travel, Instagram & photography ), I definitely didn’t sign up for accounting, using spreadsheets and managing KPI’s. (That stands for Key Performance Indicators, a metric that clients use to gauge the success of a campaign. ) So, let’s talk about money! 💸💰💵 So many creators are super quick to jump into travel and tourism work without expecting payment. They justify it by saying that travel is their passion, and the value of the trip is worth the work entailed. Usually they don’t realise that this career does involve a whole bunch of things that might not be your passion, like accounting and spreadsheets. 🤓😤 So when it comes to pricing yourself in the market, whether you have 1,000 followers or 100,000 followers, you do have to factor in the value of the work overall. Not just the awesome travel stuff. We talk openly about money and pricing at the @TheTravelBootcamp , including how much creators are charging and what we personally earn (through which income streams ). 😱 Our second intake is now open, link in bio. #TheTravelBootcamp #Rainbow #Unicorn #Influencer #TravelPhotographer #TravelWriter #Blogger #MoneyHoney

Just me and my favorite coconuts @georgiarickard and @laurenepbath 🥥 hanging out in Bali ❤️ together we run the @thetravelbootcamp - where we provide the tools, resources, understanding and hope to guide people to a more purposeful life ✌🏻 running a business with two other women who are equally as stubborn and independent as I am has not been easy but it’s been so incredibly rewarding. I thank my lucky stars every day that I have these two heroes by my side. We are all polar opposites but are perfectly united in our beliefs about creativity and building the life of our dreams, something we have to remind ourselves of constantly as we argue from what to order from Uber Eats to where we shape and grow our company. I’ve worked for myself for so long and I’m fiercely solitary and independent, but learning to work in a team has been one of the richest experiences of my life! And we couldn’t have done it without the wise guidance from our coach @therichcoach who had taught us so much about making our dreams a reality and how to work together to make it happen! #thetravelbootcamp #strongandstubborn #girlpower #fierceandflowery

Sometimes I think I love and hate creativity in equal measure. When inspiration hits, it’s the most intoxicating drug on earth, nothing gets in my way, and I proceed with making things at a frantic pace, and riding the wave of creativity as far is it will take me. I live for that feeing 🎉 But perfect sets and endless swells don’t last forever and calm seas always return and with it a general feeling of #meh #blergh and #ugh can easily take over. That’s where my head has been the past week and a half, somewhere in between Dr. Seuss’ Slump and a Lurch, and like the wise cartoonist once penned, un-slumping yourself is not easily done. So how do I find my way out of this maze in between a Lurch and a Slump? Suggestions are welcome. What are your tips for finding your creative voice again? For looking for those waves of inspiration? Ironically today’s IGTV Post is about ... IGTV Posts. Haha. Amongst other things. I wanted to take the opportunity to talk about the importance of using all of the features of Instagram, and how. And remember, all of the topics that I’m covering in this series are “beginner” Instagram topics that I go into in more detail at the Travel Bootcamp. It’s all interesting stuff, but it’s all information you can probably find elsewhere. The real reason why people come to the Bootcamp is for the “advanced” topics on monetizing. So, you’ve got an audience, finding out what you can do with it. Who to pitch to, how, how much to charge, what services the industry is looking for. All the things! I’m actually thinking I’d love to do a series on some of these topics here too, but you would have to come to the Bootcamp to really pick my brain. 😏😝 First intake ticket sales close tonight and pricing increases for the next round. 🌟Final day for reduced tickets to our next @thetravelbootcamp in Queenstown in October 🌟 perhaps it’s the romantic nostalgic in me, but I often think about what my life would be like now if I hadn’t taken a huge risk to leave my comfortable life behind and pursue a career in travel blogging - I mean, honestly, who does that? Can you blame my parents for freaking the fuck out? 🙈 sorry mom! As I sat perched on these rocks last week watching the most magnificent sunset, I thought about all of the sunsets I’ve witnessed in some of the most spectacular spots around the world. My blog has taken me to dozens of countries and has offered endless creative opportunities, but in many ways, boiled down to it, I’m most grateful for these sunsets. Simple, poignant moments that remind me I’m on the path of my dreams, that I made the right choice. I reflected back on the path I walked away from, those other sunsets I have missed, content in my choice and steadfast in my resolve to keep walking towards my goals. I can’t wait to share more stories from how I to where I am today and give you the lessons and tools you can use to make sure the path you choose pays off too #thetravelbootcamp #wildandfree @thetravelbootcamp

I’m regularly asked these days if hashtags even work anymore? And the truth is, they don’t work like they used to. This is current ‘best practice’ for using hashtags. #YoureWelcome #TheTravelBootcamp

I began blogging full-time back in 2013, long before getting paid to travel was really a thing. While it seems like a lifetime ago now, it took many years of hard lessons, setbacks and failures for me to grow and step into my current role. For years my time and my work didn't seem valuable to me, and I happily accepted cheaply paid writing gigs and free trips, stoked that I was living on my own terms with creative freedom. I nodded when people told me I was lucky and didn't think twice about working towards a "real" income; I was just so grateful for what I had 🙏🏻 . But instead of living like a queen in Bali, I chose to settle in New Zealand, the land of $7 avocados and $100 tanks of fuel; free trips didn't pay the bills and the time it took from me kept me from pursuing other paid work 🙈 I scraped by making ends meet, living on 2 minute spicy thai noodles and juggling bills week to week, believing myself fortunate, and often doing so much more work than I needed to without earning a dollar. I convinced myself that it was good for my brand long-term, and I was building my reputation, changing an industry took time, right? . It took getting massively taken advantage of and fucked over by a business I was close to for me to finally wake up and find some goddamn self respect ✌🏻 Dear baby Liz, just because the work you do is on the internet and totally new, doesn't mean it's not worth anything. Once the pain and hurt from that mistake began to ease, I completely changed my business. I set rates and fees and began looking at work opportunities through a new lens. No longer were they free gigs I should be grateful for, instead my time was worth something. . It was terrifying to set these boundaries but once I did, my life and my income changed forever. Learn how to value yourself, and what I charge these days, and how to set prices for unique work with me in Queenstown at my next @thetravelbootcamp in October. Good morning! I still remember Monday mornings from work days, although as a chef if you were in charge of a kitchen then often Sunday and Monday were your two days off. They are the holy grail of the kitchen world, almost a weekend. Towards the end I was not in charge though, so Monday was a work day. A split shift no less. I worked 6 days a week and 4 of them were splits. 10 shifts, and I could be send home after 2 1/2 or 3 hours if it wasn’t busy. At the end of the week my pay was between the $650 - $700 mark, pretty good money for the kitchen actually. I wanted so much more out of life, especially more travel and adventure, but also freedom. Isn’t that what we all want, freedom? The ability to choose. And when I quit that job, on nothing more than a gut instinct, I was crippled with the most insane fear. It consumed me. It still does. But my tolerance has changed. I’m scared, but I do it anyway. Because I know that I can’t return to that life. There is more out here, there’s a different kind of life waiting for those that are brave enough to take the first step. “Sometimes later becomes never. Do it now.” Two days left of first intake tickets to the Travel Bootcamp, if you want to change. < Link in bio > @TheTravelBootcamp #TheTravelBootcamp #AuroraExpeditions #Penguins #SouthGeorgia #Success #Entrepreneurship #Conference #TravelBlogger #TravelWriter #TravelPhotographer

For the longest time I really resisted calling myself a photographer. I’m not sure why, but I felt like I hadn’t “earned” it. Instead I stuck with the familiar title of blogger, writer, or the more generalized “that girl from the internet.” I feel like this is so common, especially with women, we hold ourselves back, whereas I’ve met more men than I can count who don’t even shoot in manual or haven’t even sold an image and they have no problem calling themselves professional photographers 🤷‍♀️ if only feminine confidence in the workplace wasn’t considered a bad thing; and don’t even get me started on men who’ve belittled me for carrying a pro kit. But before I digress into another feminist tirade, I’d like to acknowledge the work I’ve put into becoming a better photographer over the past decades. I’m always working, always learning, always upskilling and trying to learn new tricks. I’m so lucky in my line of work I’ve been able to connect with some of the most talented and creative photographers in the world, many of whom have taken me under their wing and taught me so much (I’ve tagged a few of them in this image if you’d like some new people to follow ). Thank you to all for being so generous with me. Since I picked up my first DSLR about a decade ago, my photography had taken me around the globe and earns me over 6 figures a year. I’ve licensed images to some of the biggest brands in the world and had them featured in publications I could have never imagined. My work had appeared on billboards and I’ve broken so many cameras I can’t even keep track anymore. And I never stop complaining about how heavy my kit is. So what do you guys reckon, am I photographer yet or still that chick from Instagram? @thetravelbootcamp #thetravelbootcamp #girlpower #timesup

Just another influencer in Bali ☀️ show me the trendy vegan cafes and coconut mylk lattes 🙏🏻 so many of you on here probably only know me from Instagram, but the reality is I’ve been a writer and a blogger for much longer than just-another-Instagrammer. I started my travel blog, Young Adventuress, almost 10 years ago during my last semester of university while procrastinating on papers. There was an urge inside me to share my stories and travels that I couldn’t contain - they were spilling out of me and I knew, even back then, that they deserved their own home. I had no ambitions or dreams or desires of what I would or could do with those stories; I had zero notions where they could take me one day. All I knew is that I wanted to travel and write. Repeat. So that’s what I did, even when I was supposed to be doing something else and I couldn’t afford it. So I started a blog 🌟 Passion is everything in this industry, and my passion for blogging sustained me even in my darkest moments, even when I didn’t know what I wanted, even when I didn’t know if I could succeed. A small decision 10 years ago had led me on the greatest journey I could never imagine. My little personal blog grew into a community of tens of millions and has enabled me to build the life of my dreams, to travel and tell stories. It’s taught me more than I ever hoped to learn about myself and carried me to the greatest of opportunities. How lucky am I? @thetravelbootcamp #thetravelbootcamp

Since becoming a full-time travel blogger in 2013 my life has been filled with pinch-me moments and once in a lifetime opportunities. I never take them for granted and I wake up grateful for my life every day, even on those terrible days (which I often have ). Not every day is heli-skiing fresh powder and Michelin starred dinners (though those are definitely perks! ) Last year @southernlakesheliski took me snowboarding on our local iconic Black Peak in Wanaka with some of my best girlfriends + honorary girlfriend @markclinton (who took this shot and who I can vouch firsthand looks damn good in a dress 😘 ) and it was a day of challenges, triumphs, deep belly laughs and so much fun. I was terrified at first but then once I got the hang of it, it was the best day ever. I want to inspire more women to challenge themselves like this too! Would you believe me if I told you that I earn enough money on my blog per month DOING NOTHING to live a normal life here in New Zealand? For a few years now my goal has been to set up enough “passive income” to be able to survive and free me up to take on some very scary-but-awesome lifelong projects that have been on the backburner. My passive income comes from both ad revenue and affiliate sales, and it really frees me up to live the life of my dreams and try new things. My personal mantra (and many others too ) is to work smarter not harder. While I still take on a lot of other work at the moment as I slowly build myself up to some very exciting opportunities, I reckon in a year my passive income will be so set, that I’ll be off playing with penguins and writing about endangered birds with no thoughts about chasing work and closing deals @thetravelbootcamp #thetravelbootcamp #worksmarternotharder #bloglife

For me, business is about growth. Throughout my career as an influencer I’ve known that diversification is the key to long term success. To that end I always had a practice of saying yes to every opportunity, and adopting things I love into my business offerings. That’s how I got into project management ( I love serving/ helping others ), Zimbabwe tours (the opportunity to help a destination that I’m passionate about ) and teaching (public speaking, online courses, consultancy, The Travel Bootcamp )! Along the way I’ve discovered that I hate representing others (staying at home while I send others out on adventures? No thank you! ) and I’m not a massive fan of commercial photography (the pressure, the pressure! 😱 )! So when it comes to any creative career the key is to set yourself apart with your own unique offerings. An influencer that can also shoot commercially = valuable. A writer that can also film raw video = valuable. A blogger that is a strong public speaker = valuable. I consider one of my biggest assets to be my ability to educate and inspire, and when I read through the testimonials that we get at the Travel Bootcamp I know that I’m fulfilling my ‘why’. “Loved all of it. I loved how each person had such a different voice and perspective all within the same industry. Learning that you can be you and people will still want it, and that saying no is okay. Would come back and would recommend. Inspirational.” - @Gypsy_Jee @TheTravelBootcamp #TheTravelBootcamp #Success #Inspirational #Testimonial #Influencer

A lot of people don’t realize the huge amount of work that happens behind the scenes to land jobs, but all of that work is for nothing if you can’t do one simple thing ... write an absolutely baller email!! I am incredibly grateful for my intuitive knack for email, I sometimes look back on emails I wrote early in my career and shake my head at the balls I had! 😂😂 I was the definition of ‘fake it till you make it.’ A topic that we really drill in at the Travel Bootcamp is how to write an email that will be read, and remembered. If you’re starting out and wanting to practice, here are some top tips ... 1 ) Clients receive emails from influencers and creatives Every. Single. Day! Write a catchy subject line that is sure to get noticed. Make it about them, not you! 2 ) Keep your intro succinct. Introduce yourself using your biggest achievements to date, but don’t waffle on and on. 3 ) Tell them what you can do for them and do it clearly. Vague emails with references to ‘collaborating’ or ‘working together’ are absolute time wasters. These people are busy! What do you want, what can you give them? Be clear! 4 ) Attach a media kit and try to organize a meeting or phone call to discuss further. Remember, clients work with people they like, so the more they can get to know you, the better the chances you’ll have of cutting through the BS. I landed this opportunity with &Beyond with a very clear email outlining who I was, what I wanted (with dates ), what I could offer (exact amounts of posts and deliverables ) and a personal touch. I never use templates! I hope this helps? @TheTravelBootcamp #TheTravelBootcamp #Success #Opportunity #Influencer #AndBeyond #Botswana

There was a time in my career when I was taking on too much work and I was starting to drop all the balls. I had reached a crossroads. Was I going to become another high and mighty, entitled influencer, or was I going to pull back and reassess my “why”? Luckily I chose the latter. This is a shot from Sculpture by the Sea in Cottesloe this year. I consider myself incredibly lucky that I still have this client, because there was a time when I really let them down. It was my second year of working as an “influencer” and I had been on back to back to back jobs. I was covering Sculpture by the Sea in Bondi and I was not doing a very good job. I was exhausted. I wasn’t getting up in time for sunrises and my creative edge was literally gone. I delivered very few shots and they were far from my best work. Luckily I was invited back to the event the following year and I worked my ass off. I even had the opportunity to apologize to my contact about my previous effort. This year a new agency took over the social media for Sculpture by the Sea and the agency is run by a previous Travel Bootcamp delegate! (You literally never know who’s in the audience! ) Jess had come to the event to learn more about influencer marketing and my presentations had resonated with her. When she had the opportunity to hire an influencer for Sculpture she emailed me first! Another chance to prove my worth, and a wonderful opportunity to get to know Jess better. In fact, I’m currently talking to her to take over some Facebook marketing for me. You never know who you’ll meet! If there’s a lesson here, it’s this ... bring your all to every client! If you can’t, then you’re doing too much. ❤️ If you want to learn how to network better, and practice with a very relevant room, > @TheTravelBootcamp #TheTravelBootcamp #Networking #Influencer #Success #Photographer #SculptureByTheSea #westernaustralia #seeaustralia #cottesloebeach

Wise words from our very own @georgiarickard Thanks, G! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ There’s no point comparing your successes to anyone else's. For all you know, you could be comparing your real-life to someone else’s highlight reel.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You do you, and everything else will fall into place. #SmartsOnSaturday #TheTravelBootcamp

Antarctica, the dream holiday and the absolute dream job for any creative. I’ve wanted to go to Antarctica for almost as long as I’ve been into photography, but was led to believe that getting work down on the icy continent would be impossible. Literally impossible. So, how did I do it? Here’s a secret to a massively untapped resource for creative people ... agencies! Did you know that there are hundreds of thousands of destinations and brands that work with PR, digital and marketing agencies to represent and sell their product? One little unknown (to you ) agency might represent several luxury hotels, a cruise liner and half a dozen emerging destinations and you’ve never even heard of them! If you can get in with the right agency you can work through their client list one at a time, and work your way up! That’s how I landed the gig in Antarctica, I’d originally worked with GTI on other campaigns and they rallied to introduce me to @AuroraExpeditions for Antarctica. And the funniest thing is that I actually have no idea how GTI heard of me in the first place! I was down in Sydney doing some meetings, they had previously reached out to me and we had a face to face. That meeting didn’t eventuate into any work for a long time and then I ran a campaign for them in Vanuatu. I wasn’t even on the trip. Years later I had another stab at Vanuatu and managed to get myself there, and during those negotiations the topic of Antarctica came up! The best way to land a job is not always the most direct and intuitive way. That’s why it’s important to have leads EVERYWHERE! And patience! We teach you how to develop long term client relationships 🤫 > @TheTravelBootcamp #TheTravelBootcamp #Antarctica #AuroraExpeditions #Success #Motivational #Fluffy
