While the trip to the San Juans was amazing and unlike any other place I’ve been before my parents and I didn’t have the best luck with wildflowers. This was one of the few times we got to see a large patch of columbines and luckily it was overlooking this epic view. • • • _______________________________________________________ Camera: @nikonusa D850 Lens: @sigmaphoto art 14-24 f2.8 Tripod: @benrousa Long Series 3 Mach3 Carbon Fiber _______________________________________________________ #ig_color #neverstopexploring #stunning_shots #earth_shotz #theimaged #worldprime #lost_world_treasures #ig_shotz #optoutside #earthfocus #jaw_dropping_shots #viewcolorado #wildflowers #natgeocreative #agameoftones #artofvisuals #visualambassadors #ig_tones #optoutside #outtherecolorado #coloradotography #moodygrams #awesomeearth #visitcolorado #hubs_united #beautifuldestinations #depthsofearth #sanjuanmountains #nature_lovers #earthpix

This has been one of the best summers I’ve had in years. It has been full of experimenting with other avenues of film with a variety of subjects. Here is an artsy shot of me filming someone playing an Upright Bass at golden hour. I’m excited with how my cinematography skills continue to grow by pushing myself to film a variety of things.

“So, I was thinking,” Avalon says as I approach her in the dim pre-dawn light just below the saddle between Mt. Democrat and Mt. Cameron, “I've already summited Democrat. If I skip it today, I’m confident I can complete the other three summits.” I think about what she’s saying as I take a few final steps to catch up with her. “Are you comfortable climbing Democrat on your own?” she finishes. ——— It’s a loaded question. Hidden in her straightforwardness is trust: she trusts me to know my body and my limits, and to be honest with her about them. Integrity is also present: she knows that I know if I say no, she will stay with me. ——— I’ve summited two #14ers in the past, but I'm by no means experienced in high-altitude hiking. I weigh the options and evaluate how I'm really feeling in that moment. 𝘐'𝘮 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘺 𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴, I think to myself. "Yeah," I say aloud, "I think that's what we should do." We decide to go for it. When we reach the saddle, I turn left to begin the ascent up Democrat, and Avalon heads right up the neighboring Mt. Cameron. ——— Avalon and I were both able to accomplish our goals that day because we were aware of our personal limits, we were prepared to push a little outside our comfort zones, and we trusted each other to make the right decisions for ourselves. I get asked often how to stay safe on trails. Well, THIS is how. The most important thing is 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘰𝘸𝘯 𝘭𝘪𝘮𝘪𝘵𝘴 and being comfortable verbalizing and acting on those when needed. I knew I couldn't safely summit all four peaks in the loop, but I was confident in my ability to summit Democrat, even on my own. Have you found yourself in a similar situation before? I'd love to hear about how you responded. ——— 📍this is Núu-agha-tʉvʉ-pʉ̱ (Ute ) land 💁🏼‍♀️in frame: @rohangypsy (Avalon )

With the completion of the Mount Evans Scenic Byway the road opened unique scientific opportunities. Physicists, astronomers, and engineers all saw potential in the now easy access to research on top of a 14,000ft mountain. In 1995 the Meyer-Womble Observatory was constructed on the summit and is owned and operated by the University of Denver. Until 2001, when it was outranked by an observatory in India it was the highest optical observatory in the world. Research on top of a mountain no doubt comes with struggles and hardships. In the winter of 2012 the observatory’s dome was smashed by high winds and the structure quickly filled with snow. It wasn’t until the following spring when the road finally reopened and the damage could be assessed that the dome was repaired. Today, the Meyer-Womble Observatory sits just below Mt. Evans true summit and continues to discern our place in the universe. 🌌 🔭 🏔 . . . . . #mtevans #denver #14er #rockymountains #mountainstones #frontrange #coloradotography #coloradoviews #rei1440project #colorado_creative #choosemountains #coloradogram #wildernessculture #theoutbound #coloradoinstagram #outtherecolorado #neverstopexploring #naturelovers #thecreative #throughthepines #getoutside #wildandco #getoutstayout #exploremore #denvercolorado #visitcolorado #optoutside #fujifeed

After traveling the past few weeks it feels so dang good to get back to sunset walks and low humidity. “Contemplating the immensities of deep time, you face, in a way that is both exquisite and horrifying, the total collapse of your present, compacted to nothingness by the pressures of past and future too extensive to envisage. And it is a physical as well as a cerebral horror, for to acknowledge that the hard rock of a mountain is vulnerable to the attrition of time is of necessity to reflect on the appalling transience of the human body.” - @robgmacfarlane Mountains of the Mind • • • • #colorado #hiketherockies #choosemountains #rockymountains #mountainsofthemind #indianpeakswilderness #wildandco #viewsfromcolorado #colorado_creative #westbysouthwest #viewcolorado #outtherecolorado #earthoffical #landscapephotography #natural_colorado #bluehour #splendid_reflections #reflection_perfection #splendid_mountains #raw_nature #bns_earth #rsa_outdoors #raw_moody #earth_shotz #bns_reflection #splendid_view #optoutside

Sun + Flower - Always fun trying to catch a flare with moving subject. A slight breeze and circling wasps kept me on my toes and the people passing on their bikes probably thought I was a crazy person bobbing and swatting... After my meeting with the moose I was headed home, but when I saw the sky behind Uncompahgre and Wetterhorn, I just had to stop again! By the time my camera was set up, it was mostly dark with only a few flashes of lightning miles away over the mountains to the south. Knowing my time was limited before the storm would arrive, and when the light would completely diminish, I quickly started to take some photos. As it was so dark I ended up going with 30 second exposures which revealed that even though to the naked eye almost all of the light and color of the day was gone, the camera could still see a brilliant pink!

I definitely recharge through swimming - what do you do? ⠀ ⠀ #Repost @adventurelikeagirl ⠀ • • • • •⠀ Is there a word for recharging by going hard, getting up early, and doing lots of really intense physical activity? Because that’s what the past two weeks were for me. I didn’t sleep much. I sweated and hiked a lot. I was constantly doing or planning. I’m exhausted, but in an accomplished and fulfilled kind of way. I feel ready to tackle the next three months of class and clinicals. And while I’m sad to leave this beautiful state and the people who make it wonderful behind, I’m ready to rock out these last few months and finish 2019 with an RN behind my name 💪🏻.⠀ ———⠀ 📍this is Núu-agha-tʉvʉ-pʉ̱ (Ute ) land⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ #Girlswhohike #allwomenalltrails #hikelikeagirl #adventurelikeagirl #optoutside #forceofnature #sweatydirtyhappy #fatgirlshiking #fatandoutdoorsy #takingupspaceoutdoors #hikecolorado #coloradical #outtherecolorado #outtherepodcast #nursingstudent #studentnurse #travelstoke #getyourassintonature #nationalforests #mypublicland #publiclandowner #vailcolorado #highincolorado #rockymountainhigh #thetrek ⠀ • • • • •⠀ • • • • •⠀ DM or tag #fatandoutdoors to be featured ⠀ • • • • •

Time is so subjective(as in influenced by personal opinions ). We claim we don’t have time to do this or that but the actual issue is that we have other priorities. It’s really hard to point the finger to ourselves when those things relate to you physical and mental health. We as humans often feel so invincible for some reason. We have an undeniable faith in modern medicine and feel like anything broken can be fixed. Yet we are so much more complex than that. We are not Barbie dolls that can be put back together. It is a hard truth to learn that we are slowly killing our selves with so many small things. All because we “don’t have time” to do things that will improve our overall health. It kills me to see people develop health issues that could be prevented with SIMPLE things. I see it so selfish to be lazy and become ill. There are so many people out there that wish they had what you had, people who are born into illness. So next time you think you have it bad remember someone else has it worse. Time is priority here, use it to make yourself and others to be better! I really hope this motivates somebody lol #rantover
