My mind is drawn to visit this beautiful place today. A peaceful haven on the west of Vancouver Island where we watched the waves, wildlife, and weather for hours every day. . Stillness of the mind, being in the present moment, was priceless. . And it's still so vivid and alive in my senses I can close my eyes and transport myself there. I think I can even smell the salty sea 🌊 . When we deeply tune in to the senses it can greatly enhance our experiences. #JointCare101 this week highlights the wrists. . This technique also doubles up as another awesome unique way to wave at your friends 👋🏻. Thank me later for all the waving inspo content I'm providing these days. Its niche but necessary . Seriously though these wrists CAR's (controlled articular rotations ) look simple but are quite challenging. Not compensating from any other joint is tricky when you first try these. . How to do it: ▶️ Brace your entire body (every muscle from your feet to your hands should be slightly tensed ) ▶️ Start with your arms by your side, elbow flexed at 90°, with your palms facing to the sky. ▶️ Imagine you have a pen attached to your middle finger, and you're about to try and draw the biggest circle you can without moving any other joint ▶️ Draw that circle slowly flexing your hand towards your inner forearm at the top and extending it away to your outer forearm at the base ▶️ Every millimetre counts. If it feels awkward just be patient and slow it down. It will get smoother over time and the circle size will expand. . Full length video is in my IGTV if you want to follow the full routine . My body has told me before and is telling me now that this is the way it likes to be fueled - Short feeding windows and to run on fat. Whether it's sustainable or not is a matter of mind. So if my body is responding favourably to my dietary habits yet my mind is giving me grief for it, then what does that tell me about what's been making the decisions up until now? Furthermore which one is susceptible to influence and which one tells you what's what and not just what you think you want to hear? If we can get to a place where the mind and body work in harmony regarding our food choices we can build a healthy, sustainable relationship with food that facilitates our emotional and physical wellbeing. The process of getting there is one that begins with honesty about why we do what we do regarding our food choices and eating with concious intention instead of pure emotion and habit. Little Molly here loves playing in this box. The laser pen, wind up ladybird, designer toy, balls which light up when they bounce, the cozy igloo style bed with plush blanket inside? Nope, no interest at all!!! There’s such a valuable lesson here for me. It’s something about all the elaborate ways I use and things I buy to try and make my life feel more “comfortable”, to make me feel better. Ooh that scented candle is what I’ve been missing, that new Buddha statue will remind me of the important things, a better zafu to sit on would make meditation easier.... I think you can see where I’m going 😉. A cardboard box is all my cat needs to play in, sleep in, scratch and feel safe in. None of the cute gifts, gadgets and accessories the world tells me I need to buy or seduces me with whenever I leave the house. The same goes for my wellbeing. Deep down, I know the best thing I can do to feel happier, more secure, calmer, centred and grounded is simply to sit and meditate. It’s not shiny and alluring, sometimes it’s excruciating, often it’s boring, but all of the experiences of being present in awareness for my moment to moment experience, are what ultimately bring me the most peace. What could you let go of today? What could you do without? What would help you return to your basic mindfulness practice for at least a few minutes? I’d love to hear from you. Strap in: ° If meditation or yoga or affirmations or apps help you deal with your chronic illness, that's awesome! You do you. ° But when I went to a rehabilitation institution in Norway to have physiotherapy after Lemtrada, I was told by one of the Mindfulness "teachers" that all I needed to cure myself was to "stop being angry and let go of my negative energy" to "allow my body to heal itself completely". I asked if they actually meant diseases like MS and cancer, and mental illness, and they said they did. I walked out. ° That was some of the most ridiculous victim-blaming bullshit I've ever heard. Relaxation techniques to help your body? Sure! Breathing exercises to cure cancer? Fuck right off, mate. Saying stuff like that means that the sick person is blamed for not magically making themselves better. Had to reshare this one 👾 I found it rather challenging to translate this text into English but basically what I'm trying to communicate is that I find that these ideas we paint for ourselves of meditation and yogal being only for a certain kind of people rather old and paradoxal. It's not unusual to hear someone say "oh that's not for me I'm to.. " or "I could never do that" (and I'm not talking about doing challenging asana poses here but rather sit still for 5-10minutes and focus on your breathing ) I decided to call this a phenomena. But this is so outdated and far from the truth, because the reality is that when we practice stillness/meditation and yoga we allow ourselves to explore who "me" is on a level where we are not distracted from a society that is almost constantly trying to tell us who we are and should be. I wanted to say to each and everyone who views or notices a post of mine that you are special to my ❤! I know instagram can be a game of who owns the most materialistic items or who can impress someone with one simple video- this is such a positive way to express pure emotions but at the same time hindering your perspective on what is truly important- would it be nice to have luxury cars/houses.. Of course.. But stay within realistic outcomes with what youre doing next- don't hate on someone because you dislike what they show on their profile.. Its their page to display what they love and enjoy.. Notice your surroundings while embracing new beginnings- always have a backup plan or two towards your journey because things can happen- would I be 28 thinking that I would have to fight two mental health illness' along with gaining excessive amount of weight?.. Never.. But this is the cards Ive been dealt.. No one needs to be called names because of health conditions/weight/gender appeal/income/friends/etc.. Stop judgement on others- its getting to become ridiculous.. Dont you notice that you look extremely weak when you call someone names just to get a sense of gratitude.. Enough.. I see comments all the time that make me sick just thinking about what that person would feel after reading it.. Enjoy your own life while at the same time not ridiculing people around you..
