Whether you love it or hate it, social media is one of the best ways for getting our creative work out into the world. But it can be so overwhelming, time consuming, and yet another thing to do when we’re already so busy! How can we make social media simple and fun and use it to actually grow our following? . On this week’s episode of Creativity School, I talk to social media strategist Andrea Jones. Andrea loves to help people build profitable communities online through simple solutions, and she’s also the host of the Savvy Social Podcast. She’s here to answer ALL THE QUESTIONS, and do I mean all the questions. We talk about it all - like what kinds of posts perform best (photos of ourselves? product shots? graphics? personal posts? ), how much time we *actually* need to spend on our accounts to be effective, and how to make this whole thing simple and easy. Andrea also shares how to beat Instagram’s algorithms and authentically increase engagement, and she also answers a ton of listener questions. This episode is packed full of great information and you won’t want to miss it if you want to build your social platforms. . Let me know what you think about this episode! Thank you Grace for having me! #repost @thegracechon ・・・ The dictionary defines success as “attaining wealth, prosperity and fame”. Oftentimes, the more achievements we can accomplish and the more money we make, the more successful we feel. But being on this never ending hamster wheel of chasing external validation and accomplishment can leave us burned out and feeling unfulfilled. Is our creativity only meaningful when it receives attention and accolades? Of course not! So how do we begin to reimagine what success really is, so we can live a life of more meaning and purpose? . Today’s guest Anna S. E. Lundberg is a success coach, business strategist and founder of One Step Outside. Anna is passionate about inspiring and supporting others to reimagine what personal success means so we can have businesses we love and live with more freedom and fulfillment. We talk about how to overcome fear and take “one step outside” to start the process of redefining success, and how to discover what personal success is to us so we can find more meaning in the lives we live and the work we make. . - PODCAST CHECK 1 2 3 🎤 - #Repost @thegracechon ・・・ We all know the unknown and uncertainty of forging ahead on your own creative path can be terrifying! So how can we overcome all the fears and move forward? . On this week’s episode of Creativity School, I’m talking to Hommy Diaz. Hommy is an influential designer in sneaker culture with over 15 years of experience working with with top brands like KSWISS, Palladium Boots and DC SHOES. He is also the cofounder of MAGNUS ALPHA, his own designer sneaker, accessories and apparel company. . Hommy is a proud child of immigrants from the Dominican Republic and his family told him he couldn’t make money being an artist. Despite this, he went to Parsons art school, graduated, and then took a part time job at the Apple Store, much to the confusion and disappointment of his family. Somehow, Hommy leveraged that experience to end up as the global product line manager at DC Shoes... with zero shoe design experience! We talk about how he navigated this journey, his particular way of thinking that allows him to stay open to possibilities without trying to control the outcome of the unknown, and how this has consistently opened doors for him on his creative path. . Stay tuned for Part 2 with Hommy next week, where we talk about how to create work that's meaningful to consumers and more. . Let me know what you think about this episode! #Repost @thegracechon ( @get_repost ) ・・・ Super pumped to introduce my first guest on #creativityschoolpodcast , Shinah Chang of @crookedcalligraphy ! Her story of going down a VERY traditional path to success is so relatable to me - she has a Korean tiger mom, got a perfect 1600 on her SATs, went to Harvard, became a highly paid corporate attorney..... and then quit it all to become a badass calligrapher. We talk about her journey, how she is authentically herself online and in her work, and SO MUCH MORE. Also if you swipe through, you can see her early calligraphy work, and how much she’s evolved and grown in just 2 short years.(First example is from 2016, second from 2018. ) I love showing old work because it’s a great reminder to all of us that we all start somewhere and with time can grow our gifts exponentially!! Let me know what you think about the episode! You can listen on iTunes and wherever you listen to podcasts 💕 . . . #shinahchang #crookedcalligraphy #podcast #shepodcasts #applepodcasts #instapodcasts #instapodcast

I did a little podcast with my friend @thegracechon , all about my career as a tv reporter and then travel journalist, and it turned out awesome!! I kinda didn’t hold back...we talked about career manifesting, burnout, how I faked it till I made it (to today, I definitely don’t feel like I “made it” yet ), how I used to work in a dental office just to pay the bills, creativity, the grind and grunt work of breaking into video journalism...oh child, it was a whole thing. If you have a long drive coming up and need some inspiration, take a listen. Talking to creative people on my podcast about their personal creativity journeys has been so fascinating and revealing. One thing that has come up on nearly every episode is that they just make the ideas that pop into their heads, without being judgmental or overly precious. I started this digital art series back in 2017 called “They Are Us,” using old yearbook photos to think about the connection between humans and animals through time. I was SO passionate about this weird idea. I collected a ton of source images and did a ton of research. And then, I only made 3. Maybe someday I’ll get the time to do more. . At the time when I shared this a few years ago, I felt really self conscious about it because it’s so different than my usual work. Like, I actually talked to my therapist at the time about it! And I got a lot of comments like, “this is creepy, this is weird, who are you??!” But this work IS me! It might not be the Grace you know on social media, but it is me. I am weird. I am quirky. I like weird stuff. (And weirdness by the way, is awesome. ) And in 2 years, I’ve become so much more resilient and confident in myself. And I’ve also learned that the art you make isn’t meant for everyone. The point is, just make the stuff you want to make. It doesn’t need to have a point, it doesn’t need to make you money, and it doesn’t have to be adored universally by everyone. Make it because you feel like it, and that’s reason enough. 💕 #creativityschoolpodcast #theyareusseries

Whoa. Just found a REALLY old ad I placed in Bark Magazine ions ago to advertise my pet portrait work. Crazy timing that I found it today because I was *just* talking about this very thing in my interview with Grace Chon on episode #7 of her new Creativity School podcast. We had a lot of fun chatting, and probably would have talked for 3 more hours if we thought anyone had the patience to listen! Link in bio if you wanna give it a listen 🙂 In other news I was very proud of my “full-fledged family members” tagline at the time. Took a while to get it right. . #creativityschoolpodcast #dogportrait #dogpainting #artist #animalart #aimeehoover #contemporaryart #originalpainting #originalartwork #modernwildlifeart #largescaleart #interiordesign #wildlifeartist #artcollector #artcollecting #contemporarypainting #wildlifepainter #acrylicpainting #modernwildlife #contemporarywildlife #kunst #creativeuprising #artistsoninstagram #artoftheday

Honored to be the Episode 7 guest on the new Creativity School podcast with @thegracechon ! We chatted about (aka: I overshared about ) lots of stuff including turning side hustles into full time gigs over time, the good and bad and the ugly of sharing work on social media, and broached the subject of utter creative burn out and wanting to quit everything 🙋🏻‍♀️I tried to keep things real (maybe too much ) because that’s what I love about podcast guests so I hope you enjoy it 💚 Grace started this Creativity School because she wants to help & support people who need a little *nudge* getting their creative ideas and energy out into the world. I’d love to help build that community so if you like the podcast, it would be awesome if you shared it. Thanks so much guys 👊 . . #podcast #artpodcast #creativityschoolpodcast #artinterview #artist #animalart #aimeehoover #contemporaryart #animalartist #originalpainting #originalartwork #artistinterview #modernwildlifeart #wildlifeartist #artcollector #artcollecting #contemporarypainting #podcastinterview #wildlifepainter #modernwildlife #artinspo #contemporarywildlife #kunst #creativeuprising #creativity #artistsoninstagram

Raise your hand if you're busy and struggle with finding the time to work on your creative projects? . Raise your hand if you feel completely distracted from work by technology and the internet? . (Raising both hands over here ) . My guest this week, @jakekahana , says nobody taught us how to work, and he wants to change that. . I'm not exaggerating when I say this conversation completely changed the way I work. In fact, I edited this episode more efficiently than ever before, thanks to all the juicy, research backed techniques Jake shares with us. . Jake is an artist and teacher helping people thrive in a world overrun with distractions by leading them in unlearning bad habits and replacing them with new, better ones. He’s also the king of side projects and the co-founder of Caveday, a company dedicated to teaching people how to maximize their productivity. Fast Company even referred to Jake and his co-founders as “Procrastination Nannies.” But it’s not just about doing more work in less time– Jake says it’s about improving the quality of your life by improving the quality of your work. . In this episode, Jake shows us how to unlearn the bad habits we’re all used to, and how to recreate our own mini Caveday at home. As someone who is highly creative with multiple side projects, he also shares some great insights about how to be more creative. . Let me know what you think about this episode! Especially if you start implementing some of these tips!! Check out the Creative School Podcast featuring #LAWomensFilmCollective member @sylbialin !! ***** Repost from @vktrycreative using @RepostRegramApp - 🚨 💕 Check out co-founder Sylvia talking about her work with VKTRY at the creativity school podcast with Grace Chon! 🤩 #Repost @thegracechon with @get_repost ・・・ If you don't know what you like or what you're good at, and you don't think you have the time to figure it out, you have to listen to today's episode! When I had the idea for doing this show, my very good friend Sylvia Ray was one of the first people I knew I had to interview because her journey to becoming a rising filmmaker is amazing. . Sylvia says she didn’t know what she liked or was good at throughout most of her life. After becoming a mom of 2 young boys, she started feeling antsy but completely clueless about what she wanted to do. Using what little time she had, she explored and looked for inspiration where she could, eventually teaching herself how to write, edit, produce and direct films. And in just 2 short years (without going to school!!!! ), her films have been screened coast to coast, her work has been featured on major websites like The Huffington Post, and more. . In this episode she shares her journey from feeling stuck, to working through her fears of sharing her work, to become a rising filmmaker - all while being a busy mom of 2 young boys. . Do you relate to Sylvia's story at all? Do you feel like work or parenthood is keeping you from exploring what you love? Let me know what you think about the episode! I was delighted to be on an episode of Creativity School with the brilliant @thegracechon ! If you are into podcasts you will love this one. I had a blast talking about my favorite subject! 📷: @alaskangeles ・・・ I’m so thankful to hear all your feedback so far on Creativity School!!! It’s truly a labor of love - it takes a ton of my time and I’m obviously not gettting paid. But I’ve been having so much fun doing this and am glad you guys love the show! 💕 . This week’s episode is all about HOW TO BE MORE CREATIVE! How to tap into it, how to follow the creative process, and how to feed your creative spirit by listening to your intuition. This is just the first of many episodes devoted to becoming more creative, and I’m excited to bring you Esther’s take on it. . My guest today, Esther Loopstra, is a prolific artist and illustrator, specializing in food and travel, hand-lettering, and surface design. Her work has been used for on a ton of stuff and her clients include Target, Google, Jo Ann Fabrics, and American Greetings. . Esther’s insatiable curiosity drew her to learn as much as she could about the creative process, eventually leading her to teach people how to discover their innate creativity. She believes everyone is creative and is passionate about helping others find and express the creativity that resides inside of them. We talk about how creativity is something innate in all of us, exercises to develop our intuition, how to find your passion using your intuition, open mode and closed mode - the two modes we need for the creative process, AND MORE. . Have you ever thought about the connection between intuition and creativity?? Let me know what you think about the episode! Happy Monday! My latest Creativity School podcast episode dropped this morning and it's all about the 4 letter F-WORD: FEAR. . It's probably the first major block that's holding you back from starting what you want to start, building the thing you want to build, and leveling up to become the person you want to be. . In this episode, I talk about how to start taking the steps to punch fear right in the face, and move forward in actionable, bite-size baby steps toward your creative goals. I also discuss how I was able to build my side hustle pet photography business step by step back in 2008, while working as a stressed out art director at an ad agency. There's a lot of juicy info in this episode, so I even created a cheat sheet for you which you can download at creativityschoolpodcast.com. . If your fear is holding you back from doing what you want to do- this episode is FOR YOU! Can you share with me what fear is standing in your way?? And if you aren't into podcasts well, don't worry more cute animal photos are coming : ) 💕 . Let me know what you think about the episode! Deciding to launch a podcast is one of the scariest things I've ever done. I kept feeling like I had to do it, even though it terrified me beyond words. It's easy for me to put my photography out there, but not my innermost thoughts! But I worked through the fear and did it. And you know what? It's not as scary as it was when I started this journey 6 months ago, which is what I've found happens every single time you do something that scares the tears out of you. (literally! ) . The show is called Creativity School, and it’s all about how to tap into your creativity and get your greatness out of you and into the world! Episode 1 is out now and all about what creativity is, why it’s important, and why I’m doing this show. Episode 2 launches tomorrow morning, with new episodes coming out every Monday morning. . I hope 2019 can be the year we all level up and expand into the people we were born to be! If this is the year you want do something, make something, or be something more and don’t know how to start or need some motivation to keep going, I hope you can find some inspiration through this show. I love you and I'm here for you! May 2019 be your best year yet!!! . PS: THIS SHOW IS ENTIRELY FOR YOU!!! So if there is a topic you want addressed, a pain point you need help going through, or a guest you want to hear from, PLEASE DM ME! This show is all about us connecting and growing together so please don’t be shy and reach out! ❤️ . ➡️www.creativityschoolpodcast.com and 🎧 and subscribe at iTunes and wherever you listen to podcasts.
