I used to care for the elderly. One of my clients, who has passed on now, was named Aileen Bouvier. We grew quite close. We are always checking our patient’s blood pressure, O2 levels, and Heart Rate during our evals and treats to make sure that no one passes out on us. All of these factors can be effected by movement, especially moving from the lying position to sitting and then to standing. We are always reminding our patients to BREATHEEE (my letter B😉 ) “Smell the roses, blow out the candles!” Since they are often so focused on other things like the pain, their muscle weakness, the shock of moving out of bed, often breathing gets forgotten about. Do yourself a favor while you’re healthy, stay active, move around and keep that heart healthy! It will certainly benefit you in the long run🏃🏽‍♂️

Better late than never! Today I participated in @twloha 's #runforit 5k - which actually consisted of me running and walking for 5 miles instead of kilometers because reasons lol. The actual date for the event was 4/13 but my body so wasn't ready for a run after all the #stardamageyogadamage If you don't already know @twloha , check them out. 👣🦶Working on integrating some DNS exercises with steel mace flows. Trying to make my feet work like hands. Definitely need to be cautious transferring with the feet. Barefoot or Toe shoes for tactility. Start light and work on control. Use the toes to grab the mace. When working transfers between feet it helps to roll the mace with your hands into your toes. . . Dead Bug and supine movement variations with the mace being held by the toes creates a significant challenge to core stability. These challenges are great for almost everybody but definitely has good specific functions for grapplers. . . MEDITATION MYTH #4 // –– “I don’t know how to meditate. I just fall asleep.” . ^^ Chances are, you’ve dozed off while meditating. . With the lights on. In the middle of the day. In a freezing cold room. . No matter what, every time you close your eyes and try to “quiet your mind”… . …You’re off to never-never land before you know it. . So fast, frankly, that you wish you could fall asleep that quickly on the reg. . But at home. In your bed. At night. You know, the time you’re supposed to be sleeping. . So naturally, you must have missed the memo on this whole meditation thing. . It works for everyone else, but not for you. . And that’s that. . *big sigh* . Let me stop you right there. No, that ain’t that. For two reasons. . First, meditation is a simple technique that takes fifteen minutes to learn — at most. When you meditate, you allow your mind to come back to its natural resting state. So it’s more of an un-learning, if anything. Meditation is a skill you already have. (Even if you’re not aware of it yet. ) . Second, and more importantly, meditation is a heart-opening practice. . Meaning that when we meditate, we soften. Let our guard down. Stop hiding behind our busyness. . We allow ourselves to actually FEEL what’s going on inside of us. . So if you find yourself falling asleep when you meditate, I have one word for you: . FATIGUE. . Yep! It’s that simple. You’re just damn tired. . Not something to beat yourself up about. And definitely not something to stop you from meditating, either. . Here are a few tips: . *Think of dozing off as information. It’s intel into what you and your body really need. *Try meditating with your eyes open. Soft, hazy gaze. Unfocused, about 3-6 feet in front of you. Try to see your entire periphery, rather than one spot. *Place slightly more emphasis on the inhale. Conscious Breathing. Not as simple to do as it is to say. . Start by just taking 10 deep breaths first thing in the morning and across the day. As you slowly and evenly inhale and exhale focus easily on the breath - relax the mind. Check in and feel without attachment. . It is possible over time to expand the connection between the breath and the mind to turn the light of consciousness on over different aspects of your being and thus across your life. . To examine under the light of consciousness and without judgement what is real and to discern whether this is for you or not and then to mindfully take right action. It’s a connection with the breath that expands our consciousness not control. . Just start by taking 10 deep breaths and connect your mind to your breath. It’s a practice with no end for anyone. How much are you holding onto!? "A psychologist walked around a room while teaching stress management to an audience. As she raised a glass of water, everyone expected they'd be asked the "half empty or half full" question. Instead, with a smile on her face, she inquired: "How heavy is this glass of water?" Answers called out ranged from 8 oz. to 20 oz. She replied, "The absolute weight doesn't matter. It depends on how long I hold it. If I hold it for a minute, it's not a problem. If I hold it for an hour, I'll have an ache in my arm. If I hold it for a day, my arm will feel numb and paralyzed. In each case, the weight of the glass doesn't change, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes." She continued, "The stresses and worries in life are like that glass of water. Think about them for a while and nothing happens. Think about them a bit longer and they begin to hurt. And if you think about them all day long, you will feel paralyzed – incapable of doing anything." It’s important to remember to let go of your stresses. As early in the evening as you can, put all your burdens down. Don't carry them through the evening and into the night. Remember to put the glass down!"
