🌀✨🌳This is the first place I encountered spirit, here on English soil... in the cracks and hollows of a grand, old chestnut tree. Entish folk inhabit these parts, for sure. I've walked by this old one everyday on my way to Breaking Convention and have spent this weekend in learning & listening mode. This global gathering of the modern psychedelic community has been a poignant experience for me. Some of the topics closest to my heart are finally being given the space and airtime they deserve, particularly conversations around how psychedelics can help humans meet ecological collapse, dissolve white supremacy and counter the legacy of colonialism world wide. These aren't the first layer of issues most people seek to address with psychedelics... personal healing and spiritual fortification typically come first. I sense we may be past our collective infancy. Now those who feel whole enough and resourced enough are seeking to broaden their focus from personal wellness to an expanded sense of service and self. This lifts my heart 💓. I also feel as if we are floating on a vast expanse of grief. People are telling the truth and opening the doors to that flood. I know my own role has something to do with preparing myself and others to face and process this. As an ecologist, working with life forms on the brink of extinction, I witness and document the loss of biodiversity. Yet my work has never been more satisfying, because I've learned to stand up and sing in the face of it all and to celebrate the small miracles. The urgency is palpable. I have no illusions about turning the tide of climate change or mass extinction. Ancestral healing work has been key in preparing for the inevitability of the death that greets all beings. My heart is cracked open and tender 💔and I am in absolute awe of the time and place I get to experience in this lifetime. #breakingconvention #breakingconvention2019 #psychedelichealing #ancestralhealing #collectiveconsciousness #collectivehealing #griefwork #endwhitesupremacy #massextinction #plantmedicine #sacredplants #plantteachers #sweetchestnut #ents #chestnuttree #castaneasativa #treefolk #ancestralpilgrimage #rootwisdom

#day943 from @moveon #MoscowMitch McConnell might be the one Republican in Washington who's even worse than Trump—but just like Trump, he just keeps sinking to new lows. Take, for instance, his response to the shootings in El Paso and Dayton. The American public is clearly demanding action, and bipartisan legislation to require background checks on gun sales has already passed the House. The Senate version of the bill is sponsored by Pennsylvania Republican Pat Toomey and conservative West Virginia Democrat Joe Manchin. Polls show that majorities of Republican voters support it.6 It's the quintessential example of a consensus bill that the Senate was made for. But McConnell won't even allow a vote. Instead, the day after the shooting, his campaign put up pictures of tombstones with the names of his Democratic opponents, blatantly inciting the kind of political violence the country had just experienced. 🔵 Let’s VOTE HIM OUT 🔵 # wethepeople #stoptheviolence #endgunviolence #powertothepolls #womensrights #blacklivesmatter #familiesbelongtogether #lgbtqrights #protecttranskids #immigrantsmakeamericagreat #nobannowall #refugeeswelcome #mybodymychoice #istandwithpp #endwhitesupremacy #takeaknee #climatechangeisreal #waterislife #supportthearts #savethenet #goptaxscam #fucktrump #reclaimingmytime #shepersisted #intersectionalfeminism #sisepuede #goodtrouble #r4nv

Greetings Social Justice Community, As many of you know, this is a critical time for the Residents of Gordon Plaza, in the Upper 9th Ward, in their fight for a fully funded relocation off of the toxic soil that the City of New Orleans built their homes on at the Agriculture Street Landfill. Too often issues of the environment, climate change, and increasingly toxic soil, water, and air show up at the door steps of Black, Brown, and Poor working class communities first. This is not new. But, it is time for change to happen at every corner of our neighborhoods that we can make change happen! At this rally the Residents of Gordon Plaza shared an important vision for the future, and they did so from their current neighborhood. In this demand for a fully funded relocation, the residents are fighting for their lives, their children and grandchildren’s live, and a healthier future for us all. Please come to stand with the Residents! Much appreciation, ✊🏿 NOTE: Ways to support: Make your own sign showing why YOU stand with the Residents of Gordon Plaza in their fight for a fully funded relocation, use the hashtag #GordonPlaza and post it on social media. It must be exhausting to have that much hate in one's heart. Any dehumanizing ideology is going to contribute to rape culture. Anytime someone feels justified in saying another human being is "other" or "less than" there is the willingness to use them. And that is unacceptable. This is one of hundreds of examples of how white women have ‘policed’ the activity of Black people, inspired by a harmful brew of unfounded fear and a false sense of superiority and righteousness. If you think of the contemporary incidents of Becky on her phone calling police because a Black woman, man, or child is walking down the street, playing in the park, meeting friends in the coffee shop, etc. It is not new as evidenced in the people who were lynched for walking behind a white woman, speaking to a white coworker, or passing a note. And the false accusations of sexual assault led to hundreds, potentially thousands, dying by the mobs’ hands. To my white friends, put down the phone and stop using your key board and NextDoor app to perpetuate this history. The harm you can bring is potentially lethal. Check yourself and those around you. Set aside your judgement and build relationships. Unlearn the false stories that feed your paranoia. Just stop. #endwhitesupremacy #lovenothate #knowyourhistory #eji #antiracism

#Repost @sanashihla • • • • • We have words. Now we need ACTION! Dear #Medical Professionals, Shout out to all of the medical professionals that signed this letter (photo 2 & 3 - thank you Virginia! ) in solidarity with the Residents of #GordonPlaza in their demand for a fully funded relocation! We need you all lilke never before! The jars on this altar are filled with soil, representing the individual residents who lost their lives on the Agriculture Street Landfill, due to the toxic soil there. It is a place where the City of New Orleans chose to build homes and advertise them to Black residents in the name of affordable home ownership. Well, who knew that this would lead to that neighborhood being the 2nd highest cancer causing neighborhood in the entire state of Louisiana. The mayor of New Orleans has finally said that she is concerned and is working toward resolution, but until the fully funded relocation actually happens, we must push forward. The lives of the residents depend on this. It’s time for a change. So who else can we count out to rise up in support of the Residents of Gordon Plaza! We need all hands on deck. Who’s with the Residents? Who’s willing to stand in solidarity with the Residents? CALL TO ACTION | Join us on Saturday, August 17 at 4:00pm for a Rally at Gordon Plaza - A Vision for Healthy Neighborhoods. I can’t believe how many distractions are in place to keep us from T R U T H. Both the truths of suffering and of peace—to me they feel connected. Developing and cultivating a deep sense of awe and learning about nature has connected to me to the most radical kinds of empathy and has genuinely changed my life. It was like I was living without color before I started on this path. And I was so sick, so unable to help myself in substantial ways. So unable to offer allyship or support or healthy connection to others. This deep compassion and ethical responsibility I feel to know the truth about our world and to offer aid to others runs so deep. I’ve spoken of the pressure that can come from it for me in previous posts, but this morning I’m lying in my bed in Chicago and I woke up feeling so overwhelmed with gratitude that I have stepped into this sensitivity, connection, conversation with honesty, with suffering, with the wider world. This morning, it feels precious and worth protecting. This morning there is little that I want to do more than dream of the ways that I can live more fully, respond with more readiness to the suffering being caused by white supremacy and to not allow this knowledge to harden me, but instead to soften and to soften more into deep connection and the necessities of our time. It’s so damn short, this life. So fucking precious. I don’t want it to pass me by. Sending love dear friends 🖤.

“You matter. Your ancestors built this country, not as slaves, but as survivors whose sheer will birthed an unrivaled ingenuity spanning every field and occupation. ✨ Listen. You will hear it couched in the melody of the blues, rising in the triumphant praise of gospel music, and through the eloquent work of writers such as James Baldwin, Audre Lorde, Angela Davis and many others... ✨ Each time you hear the lies of “not enough” (smart, beautiful or talented ) echoed from American culture refute these destructive words and live. I choose to believe that art, especially installation art, has the power to inspire change in hearts & minds. Even if only incrementally. ____ I heard about the #detainedhearts project that @coffeewithroomforcream instigated. So my children and I created these hearts this week. We read the book "Mama's Nightingale: A story of Immigration and Separation." Then talked about how small voices, and small acts are catalysts that keep the momentum for change alive. Renee called for 2,000 handmade hearts that can weather the elements for an outdoor installation at a church in her community. #Craftivism to bring awareness to the 2,000 children in border patrol custody everyday and inspire folks to: 1. Call their reps and tell them we are not getting this right. Separation of families results in longterm trauma. I think the treatment of these refugees runs counter to my own church's refugee initiative #Iwasastranger 2. Donate to @Raicestexas , an organization assisting detainees and asylum seekers with legal aid. 3. Organize in your own community against the irrational implementation of current immigration policy (i.e. ICE. ) Arbitrary and inconsistent raids are being used as terror tactics and media fodder to uphold the status quo of oppression and discrimination towards Latino communities. _____ *Yes, we all know immigration policy/reform is a complex problem. It has been for years. But clearly we are not getting it right, and the course we are on is terrifyingly similar to a plethora of historic wrongs.

This is one of the faces of white supremacy. To our white allies, if this is you, please THINK of why you do it. Then, educate yourself. “For, if they take you in the morning, they will be coming for us that night.” — James Baldwin We cannot deny that the recent domestic terrorism in Texas and Ohio and cruel large-scale ICE raids in Mississippi stem from white supremacy and should be seen as an attack on this country as a whole. Now is not the time to be silent or numb.
