Construction and reconstruction of dozens of new stations, new innovative types of locomotives, including electric locomotives and maintenance vehicles. Then moving into the 1980s, signaling and communications systems were put into operation, activating automated equipment and implementing IT systems • After the USSR Kazakhstan was disbanded, the 1990s was a time of system reforms and in order to optimize the management structure of the transportation process, the state enterprise “Kazakhstan Temir Zholy” was created on the basis of three railroads • Today the rail network controls approximately 9,300 miles of track and with more than 143,000 employees, the KTZ is the country’s largest employer. Most of the trains are diesel fueled, but electrification of the track is ongoing. Over the years, KTZ has also made efforts to innovate Kazakhstan’s global transport and trade system and continues to actively explore high speed rail lines • Know more?
