Leaders should be able to resolve conflict within their teams without personal opinions or feelings. By removing that personal opinion, you can resolve situations much more effectively by considering the views of others and work towards a greater team dynamic. #conflictresolution #teamwork #teamdynamic #effectiveleadership #collaborativeworking

Share your success with the community. As a leader it is up to you to set the tone and encourage employees to take the time in switching the focus away from making a profit, to putting in the effort to give back and do some charity work. When conducting these projects, it is important to lead by example by personally volunteering your own time at these events. Your passion and commitment to the project will resonate with your team who will then likely follow suit. Demonstrate a high work ethic and focus on your team’s collaboration and this will translate back into your office environment in a positive manner. #giveback #community #leadership #teamwork #objldr

You can’t be a great leader without trust. Trust isn’t something that comes as a given with your title, it has to be earned and this takes time. Trust can be built using the 8 C’s: - Clarity - Compassion - Character - Contribution - Competency - Connection - Commitment - Consistency #trust #leadership #objectiveleader

You can’t predict the future but you can prepare for it. The future consists of uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity and as we continue to evolve, having the ability to adapt quickly is becoming increasingly important. Think about these factors: Being Agile – adapt quickly, grow from mistakes and stay flexible. Forward Thinking – strategic forecasting, innovating, being proactive. Be Tech-Minded – you need to understand how technology is going to impact your industry and experiment with different products and services. Empathy – aim to improve the lives of other people and society as a whole. #prepareforthefuture #leadership #agile #forwardthinking #adapt #objectiveleader

Accept that the future is unpredictable and turn unforeseen challenges into opportunity. How you react to unanticipated circumstances and obstacles that are thrown into your path is crucial to being a successful leader. There are two different types of knowledge that come into play when facing a new challenge. Explicit knowledge, which is having the concrete information to accomplish tasks, and tacit knowledge which is more subjective and dynamic. This is ‘knowing why’ versus ‘knowing how’ and is ultimately gained through experience, especially in non-routine situations and is central to creativity and innovation. More detail to follow over the next few days… #unpredictable #knowledge #experience #objectiveleader

4 - Fear of failure Leaders face all kinds of challenges, none of which is more abundant than the fear of failure. Leadership is tough and no matter how confident you may appear, anxiety, doubt and insecurity can occur at any given time during your career. If you have a real fear of failure it cannot be ignored. The first step is to recognise the signs. Do you set your goals too high to mask your insecurities? Do you set your goals too low because you lack confidence? Do you tend to procrastinate to delay what you perceive to be inevitable failure? Are you very indecisive? Do you have an inability to trust others to perform tasks for you? To change your fear of failure, you need to change your perspectives. It is important to realise that failure can happen to anyone and also recognise that people survive failures all the time. When addressed in the right way failure can actually present you with the perfect chance to learn, adapt and improve. We learn and grow through failing. There’s no better way to discover your strengths and weaknesses than through failure’s lessons. #overcomeyourfears #adapt #learn #improve #leadership #inspiration #objectiveleader #objldr

3 - Fear of change Change provides leaders with opportunities to create a new chapter and a new beginning. Not everyone is going to be in favour of change and when it comes to transitioning a good leader will create a safe space for people to communicate, share and express their feelings. As a leader you will be the face of change so if it is received negatively by individuals in your team, they may take their frustrations out on you. It is important not to take this criticism personally. Another important variable in change management is to be aware that people are always comparing what they’re getting, or not getting, for their efforts. The old saying that people fear change, isn’t quite true. People don't fear change, but they do fear the loss that change may bring. Leadership is about readying your team for adaptive change and keeping them motivated throughout the transition. Manage this and change more often than not, is seen as a positive. #positivechange #changemanagement #leadership #objectiveleader #objldr

2 – Fear of difficult conversations. As a leader you often need to have difficult conversations with your team. This is never easy but understanding these few things will help you come to a positive and productive outcome. - Preparing. Think through all the possible defences, denials, and counter accusations the individual can react with when faced with what they assume is an unfair assessment of the situation. - Explain the facts. The entire approach has to be completely non-judgmental with the aim of finding a mutually acceptable solution to an existing problem. - Create clarity. Listen to their version of the story first before sharing yours. These conversations are full of emotion and you need to understand the underlining issues that are driving them. - Change Behaviour. Help the individual to see different possibilities and solutions by removing their self-imposed limitation. Self-awareness is the key to changing behaviour and once this happens it is then possible for to commit to an action. - Commit to an action. The intent has to be to create boundaries and standards and have a focus on moving the individual towards set goals. Every difficult conversation is an opportunity for you to change the way your people think. #difficultconversations #difficultroads #inspire #humanresources #objectiveleader #objldr

1 - Fear of not being liked “Do I need to be liked by my team members?” The short answer is no, you don’t. The important thing here is respect. If you have respect from your team, they will work toward a common goal. Your team don’t need to like you as a boss to do a good job for you and value your guidance, but chances are they won’t do either of these things if there isn’t mutual respect. The desire to be liked can cause a leader to make poor decisions. This can often happen when a team member is promoted to lead the team he or she was once a part of. If these new managers still want to be friends with the team and liked by their co-workers, this can lead to charges of favouritism, lack of clarity in responsibilities, and poor results. Start leading by example and creating an environment of trust, fairness, commitment, accountability, and openness. If you make decisions with these values in mind, and expect the same from your team, you can achieve results through people. #respect #leadership #hr #objectiveleader #objldr

How can managers come out of their comfort zone to become great leaders? Fear, doubt, uncertainty and the risk of failure holds us back from becoming great leaders. All managers have the potential to push boundaries and overcome obstacles that may be limiting their success. The thought of failure can be quite scary and daunting, however, what we should really be fearful of is being comfortable. If you never move from within your comfort zone, you will never fulfil your potential as a leader, and neither will your team. To succeed and grow as a leader, you must confront your fears. This will force you to develop your skills with new experiences in new situations and will also provide your team with the opportunity to learn from you. Over the next few days we will be deep diving into how to overcome these common fears: - Fear of not being liked - Fear of difficult conversations - Fear of change - Fear of failure

Don't make excuses! “We tried that 2 years ago and it didn’t work.” “That’s the way we’ve always done it.” “It’s not my job.” This is Erica's story: Erica was having a hard time getting what she needed to implement a new software program. Her contact at the software company was being uncooperative. Her Project Manager said that he hadn’t observed the behaviour she described and if he wasn’t seeing a problem he couldn’t raise it. Erica went to her boss’s boss. He told her to let him know when she was at her breaking point. Then he would act. Erica worked nights brainstorming and reading books on what she could do to improve the situation. To make a long story short, the situation inadvertently became quite public. HR got involved. The persons who didn’t act looked pretty bad. Erica quit. What can we learn? Has the person done everything within their power to improve the situation? How long this has been going on? Are you listening with discernment? Do they typically have problems like this? An employee may have a reputation for creating drama. That doesn’t mean the situation isn’t real this time. What is your part? Are you avoiding conflict? Are you pushing it back to the employee because it’s sticky? Be honest with yourself. #NoExcuses #Leadership #QuoteOfTheDay #Inspiration #HR #ObjectiveLeader #OBJLDR

People often say that they find it hard to make decisions. Unfortunately we all have to make decisions all the time, whether it's what to have for lunch, where and what to study, and who to date. Some people put off making decisions by endlessly searching for more information or getting other people to offer their recommendations. Others resort to decision-making by taking a vote, sticking a pin in a list or tossing a coin. The fact of the matter is that it is not important how a decision is made as long as there is a decision made. If it turns out to be the wrong one, REFLECT - LEARN - ADAPT and make another decision. #decisionmaking #HR #leadership #quoteoftheday #happyfriday #objectiveleader #objldr

Know your strengths! It’s not unusual for people to compare themselves with others around them, and to feel superior or inferior towards them based on their strengths and their weaknesses. The thing is, every individual is different and we all function differently based on our personalities. It is important to know yourself and your capacities. Your strengths are things you can leverage on, things you can use to push yourself further. On the other hand, your weaknesses are not your downfall. These are areas you need to improve on. It is not something you lack. It is something you need to develop and build. In order to leverage your strengths and improve on your weaknesses, you first need to know them. #leadership #leadershipdevelopment #knowyourstrengths #leverage #stregthsandweaknesses

Don’t over evaluate your decisions after you’ve made them. Following a firm decision that impacts your team, it is very easy to fall into the trap of getting stuck in the mind-set of overthinking what you have just decided on. Sometimes in business it is not all about making the perfect decision, but just making a decision at all. Most successful leaders will tell you they have made many wrong decisions over their careers, but those failures will always lead to extremely valuable learning experiences. Make a tough decision and stick with it, deal with the consequences, learn, adapt and make the next decision to keep moving forward. #HR #LeadershipDevelopment #ToughDecisions #ReflectAndProgress

Break those bad habits and start a new positive one. Positive habits are hard to form and work into your pre-existing routines but will lead you to a healthier, more productive and better quality of life. Start small. For example, if you are trying to get into the habit of planning your morning team meetings the night before as this will free up more time first thing for your admin work, you need to start by committing to this one day per week. Once you are used to that routine, start building it into other days of your week until this becomes a daily habit. Once you have formed a positive habit it is important not to “break the chain” and miss a day as it could serve as an escape route if you convince yourself it’s not worth pursuing anymore. Once your habit is a major part of your regular schedule, you’ll start doing it automatically without having to make a conscious effort.

Passionate leader, passionate team. Passion is contagious - alternatively so is a lack of passion, your team members won't be inspired by a leader who is not passionate. Passion is required to turn any vision into reality and comes from the interest you have in your work. When you are passionate about something, it is always on your mind and you can’t help but be excited about it. This will eventually lead you to become an expert and will lead to success because you are always thinking and working on the thing you are passionate about. Successful leaders don’t have a job – they have a passion. #hr #leaders #passion #success
