Family Fun | Photograph by Julia Luckett ( @julialuckett ) . “What has surprised me most in raising three boys is just how different each child is,” Mark the father revealed to #YourShotPhotographer Julia Luckett. “One is cautious while another is fearless. One is highly analytical while another is deeply imaginative. They are who they are, and all we can really do as parents is love, nurture, and help guide them on their own path. Untitled | Photograph by Michael Dunn ( @michaeldunca ) . "A police shield is covered in eggs and paint after a massive political demonstration when Evo Morales confirmed his candidacy for re-election in spite of the referendum that took place in 2017 which banned him from doing so," writes #YourShotPhotographer Michael Dunn. This photo was selected for the May 17, 2019 edition of our Photos of the Week series. — “Many photos we see at National Geographic are not so beautiful, but capture a moment in a unique way. I saw that in the photo of a political demonstration in La Paz, Bolivia. After decades covering the news, I thought I had seen pictures of every kind of unrest, often from the vantage point of the protesters. This photo centered on the hand of the police officer, outstretched behind his egg- and paint-splattered shield; we’re reminded of his humanity, though we cannot see his face. I don’t think I’ve seen a photograph like this before.” — @natgeo Partners Editorial Director and National Geographic Magazine Editor in Chief Susan Goldberg ( @susanbgoldberg )

Rear View of Hong Kong | Photograph by Wai Ping Wong ( @snakewwww ) . #YourShotPhotographer Wai Ping Wong caught this moment as a man walks through a staircase in Hong Kong. This photo was selected for the May 17, 2019 edition of our Photos of the Week series. — “[This] photograph of a solitary figure ascending the stairs of Hong Kong building made me stop. It’s a man, or a boy, caught mid-journey in a stairwell’s light. Has he many more flights to go? Is he as alone as he appears, in one the world’s most bustling cities? Top Shot: Midnight Moving Day | Photograph by Amber Walker ( @aitrainers ) . “Always trying to remain least intrusive and minimally invasive in nature but sometimes we greatly disrupt it,” writes #YourShotPhotographer Amber Walker. “We had to clear some dead trees. Nocturnal, rarely seen, mama flying squirrel woke up at her midnight, felt we were too close and too disruptive, and she panicked. Photo by Robbie Shone ( @shonephoto ) | Before I was a @natgeo photographer, I was a member of the @natgeoyourshot community. My photos caught the eye of the Your Shot editors and to my joy, this one was featured as National Geographic’s Photo of the Day. I remember how I felt when this happened. I was so excited and so happy. Finally, my photographs of caves had been recognised by the “right” people. It gave me that extra bit of hope and determination to push ahead. That’s why I am so keen to help with Your Shot, because I was once one a community member, and I fed off the enthusiasm gained from reading more detailed comments by proper Nat Geo photographers! It was so encouraging and gave me the confidence to continue with my dream. Good luck to you all.
