Come hang out with us! With the very busy and varied lives we lead, @andiechen decided it was easier for us to catch up on the go than try to meet for a proper meal. We decided to film it so you can hang with us too. . ⚠ Warning: A lot of it is two of us stirring sh*t - mostly him though, because I'm 🍬 like that, LOL. . 🎥 Watch #TheCatchUp on our #Vagabond channel. 🏊🏻 My face the first time I finished swimming 50m freestyle without stopping! #achievementunlocked It may seem like nothing to you if you're a swimmer, but when I embarked on this swimming journey a month ago, I didn't even know how to swim freestyle! 🤣 Even when I learnt, I could barely make 25m (gasping and having to grab on to the wall while I swallowed some water in the process - ick! ) the first two weeks. It was really disheartening. 50m seemed impossible! (It seems the fitness and stamina one has on land does not translate to the water?! Please share if you've thoughts on this! ) My mum had sent us for basic swimming lessons as kids. We learnt back and breaststrokes, but it was just for survival; life skills so we wouldn't drown. I don't enjoy swimming. I hate the cold when you first jump in; the water that gets in the nose and ears; the constant smell of chlorine. . So why am I doing this?? . Last year my SIL asked if we would join a family relay. It seemed like a mere fun, casual thing to do - but perhaps not when you know that both she and the husband were national swimmers who represented the country in competitions here and overseas; and when my 11 year old niece seems headed in that direction, training twice a day, 6 days a week. Like, #nopressure , right? 😱 . I was thankfully overseas last year, but I didn't want to be the party pooper again this year, and so I said, "Sure..". . To make it more fun and meaningful, I challenged myself to learn and swim freestyle like the other 3, as well as to overcome my fear of diving off the starting block. Because life is more fun when you scare yourself a little, right? . (This is also because when I started, swimming 50m took me more than 3 TIMES the duration it takes my teammates! . The competition is this Saturday, and while I am still the weakest link on the team, am touched by everyone's encouragement and support. My SIL said she's just proud we are all swimming together in a family relay. ❤️ . And I do take some heart and some pride in shaving my time down to below a minute - which is less than twice theirs (instead of the 3 times it was when I started! ) . Wish me luck for Saturday!
Finally back to yoga after a three month hiatus. I've been so tired from all the swimming lately, haven't had energy for anything else beyond that and wakeboarding. Have taken an unintended break from HITT, yoga, running etc. Only went back to netball last night too. Honestly would have backed out from this morning's class if I were doing it alone; but I always feel bad standing up friends. So I dragged my tired ass to the mat, and ended up (almost ) enjoying the torture session - mostly because of the shared chatter and giggles with these two. (Yoga purists will baulk at our lack of mindful focus, lol! ) . Thanks as always for motivating me, ladies!
⚠ Warning: Long post ahead! ⚠ . This morning's situation with the girls. With one a mum to two and one a mum-to-be, we make the time work, even if it's a squeezed-out breakfast slot. (See IGS, lol! ) . I'm thankful for the close friendships I have, and quite a few people have said I am "lucky" to have the mates that I do. I agree - but only half of that is true. I'm lucky that circumstances brought these people into my life, but that we've remained close (mostly, gotten closer, in fact ) is because there was effort on both sides. Friendships (and relationships in general ) take time and work to grow. If you always prioritise other things over your human relationships (e.g. sleep; time binge-watching shows, "me time"; meeting only when it is convenient, etc. ), then you will never be able to spend time enough together for the relationship to develop. If you're not willing to open up and be vulnerable; if you're not willing to share; if you're not willing to go the extra mile for a friend in need, then the relationship will not develop. It will be stagnant - and what isn't progressing or growing will usually naturally die a slow death. Thousands of studies and over 30 years of scientific research in the area of positive psychology have linked the quality of people's closest relationships to better health, longevity and well-being - otherwise known more easily as "happiness". . And isn't the pursuit of this elusive thing known as "happiness" the point of life? So the next time a friend reaches out, maybe say "yes" instead of thinking about how you'll have an hour less of sleep the next day if you meet. The next time someone opens up to you about their problems, really, truly, actively listen, and perhaps bravely open up about your own struggles. Just sharing some thoughts as I take a break from writing a piece for @herworldsingapore on relationships (look out for it in the next issue! ). . Happy Tuesday and happy back-to-work-and-school for everyone in Singapore - after the super long weekend we just had! Hope you're having as good a day as I am! 🌞
Back to the +65 and time to hit the ________! . (Also, I realised that while I enjoy dressing up, I can also live in workout gear - and go from the court, to chlorine to seawater; one sports bra to do it all. Have you worked out today? 💪🏻 . Me, I finally managed to swim 50m freestyle today! 🤸🏼♀️ . I know it might sound lame, especially if you are a swimmer, but it's been such a challenge for me. It's seems like fitness and stamina doesn't transfer across sports - at least not where swimming and I are concerned! 😱 Now to get that timing down so I don't cause the team to lose... . 🎥 Watch for the video soon! . 👙: @theofficialohja
Been through some rough times, but you'll always be my baby brother. Happy 23rd, bro. Glad we managed to celebrate together. . Have learnt to never take time with loved ones for granted. ❤️ (Also idk why dad took the photo with the cake in focus and us blurred in the background. 😂🤦🏼♀️ )
I really enjoy eating out, and that’s one of the things I spend quite a bit on. The new KrisFlyer UOB Credit Card makes it better as you get more miles on everyday spend - so I can spend those miles on more fun things and good food! More reasons to eat, drink and be merry! PS: Super long weekend ahead... Who's got what eating out plans? Who's headed to Zouk for Mambo tomorrow? 🙊 . #yummyinmytummy #goodthingsmustshare #UOBCards #KrisFlyerUOB #KrisFlyerUOBCreditCard #sp
Happy start of the week! A pullover and denim shorts are my go-to outfit on most days that don't require me to to get dolled up. Easy separates = zero effort! I like this orange 3D cotton volume long sleeve sweater by @uniqlosg that is sewn from a single thread to create a seamless knit. The advanced 3D knit technology creates beautiful knit silhouettes for any body shape, and moves with me - essential for my jam-packed, run-around days. . It's also in a cotton material for lightweight, natural comfort, and pairs as well with denim as with my girly skirts. Hope you're having a good Tuesday as well! #uniqlosg #sp

Ideas for corporate wear, from a non-corporate person (I only worked in an advertising agency for half a year before I got the call and made the decision to switch careers. ) Hopefully gives you fresh ideas on work wear! As with everything in life, with a little imagination, nothing has to be boring.
Feeling super thankful and positive today! Thanks everyone who saw on IG Stories that I went for a scope this morning, and who asked how it went. Background: I've been getting sore throats, hoarseness and losing my voice (had full on laryngitis! ) too many times in the past few months, that my GP told me to see an ENT specialist. Put it off for weeks now, because am a little ninny and terrified of pain + going to see doctors, but finally went today at the insistence of the mum and @terenceblim It wasn't my idea of a good time, having my nose and throat numbed and then a tube stuck up my nose so the doctor could look into my throat, but it also wasn't the Worst Thing in the World as I'd imagined it to be. (Yes, I have tenancies to the dramatic. ) . It was at once gross and weird yet kind of cool seeing the inside of my throat (if you're chicken-hearted, like me, suggest you opt for a video of this rather than watching it in real time ). . It seems I do indeed have vocal cord nodules, which are callous-like growths that result from repetitive overuse or misuse of the voice. But the nodules aren't so huge that I need surgery to remove them, so for now, am to be resting my voice. The doctor told me best to not talk for two weeks to let the cords rest. T and my mum simultaneously shook their heads and burst out laughing. 🙄 He was really nice and even told me to try talking slower and in hushed, lowered tones; in a "librarian's voice", he said - and even spontaneously mimicked it for me! Totally cracked me up and made my day, LOL. Seriously though, he said it's late suppers (the acid that digests the food when we sleep affects the cords ), shouting for prolonged periods, talking excessively, alcohol, spicy food and coffee that causes this to happen. I guess... at least I don't drink coffee?! #thinkpositive #LOL Looks like I've to cut down on the mala and pints. And get ready to strain your ears to hear me, friends, coz imma get myself a sexy "librarian voice". 🤓 (I'm still cracking up thinking and typing this, wahahhaa! ) . PS: Thanks @terenceblim and mum for going with me this morning. Such a baby I am, I know. 😛
Back when I still had a gym to go to, and when I was more diligent about strengthening exercises. Been travelling but mostly been sitting on this finding-a-new-gym thing (saw what I did there? 😏 ) the past month since @triplefit sg shut in Singapore for good. Of course I'm still very active with sport I enjoy, like netball and wakeboarding, but it's the functional stuff I've slacked on. I've never enjoyed strength and/or functional training very much, and so without instructors running classes on these, or set timings to make, I haven't been doing a whole lot. My right knee has been starting to hurt, and one doctor plus one osteopath said, you need to strengthen your quads and flutes because they are not strong enough to support all the activity on them now! 🙄😩 So...workout buddies and would-be workout friends, suggestions and workout jios welcome. 😊💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻 . #boxjumps #boxjump #jumpbox #workout #jadeseahworkout #pumasg #puma

So many times to Seoul, first time having basic fun with the hanbok dressing up game. PS: Even more fun with girlfriends; can't imagine doing this without them! See previous post on the quick and silly getting ready process. ❤️ . PPS: See Stories for the reality of how awkwardly short this traditional dress was on me. #instagramvsreality #doitforthegram
