“The word hospice always conjures up an awful picture in your mind of despair and sorrow when in fact an EACH hospice is the complete opposite.” As we draw its 30th anniversary celebrations to a close, we’ve created a video that represents our hospice in Milton. We know that there can often be misconceptions about what a hospice is like; as you watch the short clip, we hope that you can see the fun, happy places our hospices can be. They are places where young people can live life to their full potential. To donate towards the support we offer life-threatened children and young people, please visit: each.org.uk/donate To read more about the 30 years of our hospice in Milton, please visit: each.org.uk/30

Here at EACH, we appreciate the value of reading and know how precious family story time can be. We believe the magic created in children’s books can transport young readers to another world – taking them on a journey that will inspire them for years to come. Therefore, we’ve created a FREE books for kids scheme, to help families make the most of their time together. Our FREE books for kids scheme, described by Suffolk author Lisa Thompson (pictured ) as ‘fantastic’, is available in school holidays throughout the year at one of our 39 shops across East Anglia. We offer one book per child (up to 14 years of age ) per week of the school holidays. Just head to your local EACH shop to get stuck in!

Some of latest Help at Home volunteers have just finished their training! Our Help at Home volunteers help to provide practical support in the family home through means such as gardening, cleaning and cooking. We know that caring for a child with complex care needs or a serious illness can be physically and emotionally draining, taking a huge amount of time, something we believe is more precious than anything to families. Our Help at Home volunteers are able to take some of the time-consuming bits of family life away from parents and carers, so that families can make the most of their time together. Currently we are in need of volunteers to help with gardening and cleaning in Colchester, Bury St Edmunds, Huntington and Peterborough. If you are able to provide this support and make a difference to the lives of a family near you, please contact: volunteerservices @each org.uk

Here at EACH we’re celebrating the 30th anniversary of our hospice in Milton! On 1st August 1989 Diana, Princess of Wales opened what was at the time only one of four children’s hospices in the world. We would like to say a big thank you to anyone and everyone who has ever supported us, whether you have raised money, donated items, or volunteered. We are currently offering care and support to 221 children, young people and family members from our hospice in Milton. Your support has also enabled us to continue to pioneer development and innovation through our education centre, opened by HRH The Princess Royal in 2003, which enables other healthcare professionals to grow and develop by making use of its library. For more information about Milton over the past 30 years, click the link in our bio.

The H-Word, by Sophie. See and hear Sophie's and their family's journey and perceptions on the H-Word via the link in our bio. Maisy Kidd-Munnery is 14 years-old and lives with her mum Sophie, dad Matt and little sister Poppy in Dovercourt, Essex. Maisy has a number of complex care needs – she suffered two bleeds on her brain within a few days of being born. She then started to have severe seizures called Infantile Spasms at just a few weeks old, suffering from more than 200 seizures a day. As a result of her complex needs Maisy underwent a number of medical procedures in the first few weeks of her life in hospital in Colchester. The whole Kidd-Munnery family have been using services through The Treehouse in Ipswich since 2012. Sophie said “I cannot imagine our lives without EACH now and I sometimes wish we hadn't let the fear of the word hospice put us off for so long.” #support #care #TheHWord #ChildrensHospiceWeek #CHW #ChildrensHospice #HospiceCare #Ipswich #Suffolk

“Children’s hospices provide vital sanctuaries for those experiencing the very toughest of times” begins a new letter of support from The Duchess of Cambridge this Children’s Hospice Week. This year, Children’s Hospice Week focuses on Moments that Matter, in hope of challenging the misconception that children’s hospices are scary places. In a recent UK-wide survey, a fifth of respondents said they did not know what children’s hospices do or what children’s palliative care means. The Duchess continues: “Throughout the week we will hear amazing stories from families facing the toughest of futures. I hope that they will inspire each and every one of us to similarly make the most of the time we have with our own families, by ensuring every moment matters and that we create memories that last forever.” Read the full letter from our Royal Patron by clicking the link in our bio @kensingtonroyal

Music For a Summer Evening 2019, the popular fundraiser that has helped raise over £131,000 in memory of eight-day-old Fleur Clemence, returns next month.⠀ ⠀ The event was set up by Fleur’s parents, Charlotte and Grant, following the death of their twin daughter eight years ago. It takes place in the grounds of the family’s home in Little Hallingbury and raises money for EACH, and will be on Saturday, 6 July this year.⠀ ⠀ Charlotte gave birth to Fleur and Sophia on 4 May, 2011. She and Grant knew Fleur would not live for long as a rare heart condition - hypoplastic left heart syndrome - had been detected at Charlotte’s 20-week scan.⠀ ⠀ It meant the left ventricle of Fleur’s heart was severely underdeveloped and her aorta too small to pump blood around her body effectively.⠀ ⠀ The family went home for their precious few days together and EACH staff visited to help with care and memory-making.⠀ ⠀ Although our fundraising staff are now organising the event, it will continue to take place at the home of Charlotte, who works in interior design, and Grant, in insurance, and who are also parents to Nancy Victoria.⠀ ⠀ Doors to the grounds of Little Hallingbury Place, in Wrights Green Lane, will open at 6pm, with entertainment getting under way from 7pm. Tickets are £15 for adults and £10 for those aged 12 and under, and available via the link in our bio⠀ ⠀ #support #care #ChildrensHospice #summer #event #summerevent #MusicForASummerEvening

On the penultimate day of Volunteers Week, we'd ike to celebrate our fundraising, retail and Help at Home volunteers.⠀ ⠀ Our fundraising volunteers are there at events making sure the event runs smoothly, taking sign-ups, acting as guides and helping everyone have the best time.⠀ ⠀ Our retail volunteers are a huge part of our successful retail year. Whether they're labelling in shops, talking to customers, working the tills or helping organise our shop floors. Our hospices/care volunteers help around the hospices with a variety of activities that are vital to keeping everything running smoothly and allowing the nurses and care assistants to do their jobs to the best of their potential. ⠀ And last, but by no means least, our Help at Home volunteers go into the very homes of our families and help with jobs around the home. Whether this be helping siblings with homework, painting news rooms or general DIY, it's something treasured by those we support.⠀ ⠀ We'd like to say thank you to all of our volunteers!⠀ ⠀ #volunteering #volunteer #VolunteersWeek #EACH #EastAngliasChildrensHospice #HospiceCare #ChildrensHospice #Care #support
